Daihatsu Charade 993cc TD

Been meaning to create this thread ever since I saw Adamd’s charade.

I have hundreds of photos for this car so I’m just going to pick a handful (partially because my net sucks and it takes ages to upload photos).

Work that I’ve done on the car:

Full engine bay stipdown and clean
Full engine rebuild
Oil pump stripped down
New oil filter
New crank bearings
New conrod bearings
New balance shaft bearings
New piston rings
Cylinders overbored, sleeved and honed to fit standard pistons (had difficulty in finding O/S pistons, finally got a few sets but I decided to keep the engine standard)
Custom made MLS gasket
Sprayed Block
All new seals and gaskets for the bottom end
Block skim
Cylinder Head skim and full rebuild (seals and gaskets)
New Waterpump
Radiatior cleaned, rust removed and resprayed.
New voltage regulator
New clutch kit
Paint detailing
Soldered in some replacement wires
New Radio (managed to find an original one in a scrapyard!)

And probably a whole load of other smaller details I cant remember haha.

Click here for some photos of the engine rebuild

As you can see I’ve acquired a few spare blocks and engines over the years haha

Nice man! how is the bodywork doing? Not too much rust?

Small bit under the back window (usual place they rust) but the rear arches are perfect, which i was really surprised about when I went to buy it. Other than that there is only a small bit of surface rust on the bonnet but I’m going to sandblast and respray that anyway when I get a chance.

Excellent car, I would love a go in one. Don’t think I’ve ever seen one, have seen at least 1 N/A diesel for sale on ebay at one point but never in the metal.

Can a mod move this to “my ride” please? I put it in the wrong section haha

As requested.

I’m keen on getting a Charade to use as a city runabout, driving a cammed 5.4 with a 3000rpm stall gets old very quickly around town.

I don’t think we got the diesel engines here is Aus, so I’d be looking for a 3cyl petrol/manual version. Would attach an AMR500 supercharger very quickly after buying too LOL
