In 1984, the 3009 received a facelift. The much of the chrome was replaced with plastic, and the 3-speed column shifted transmission was phased out. In 1986, the 2-barrel carb was replaced with an “Eco” carb which reduced fuel consumption from 15.2 to 11.8L (92 octane version)

Officially? No.

But the KGB used a version the 3009 as a chase car since 1972. These cars were fitted with a high compression version of the RMZ-668 military truck engine. This 4254cc OHV V8 unit was fitted with forged internals, a performance intake, dual 2-barrel carbs, short cast headers, dual 38.1mm exhausts, and produced 175hp @ 4500 rpm, and 334Nm @ 2500rpm. The car was equipped with a 185mm wide radial tires (specially imported from Italy), on 14 inch rims, a 3-speed automatic transmission, a lockable differential, front disc brakes, and hydraulic power steering.
