Diff ratio.... or in NZ "Duff ratio, bro"

My question: Is the “diffratio” in a trim LUA the actual ratio? I built a car that, in the real world, has a 3.54 ratio and tops out at approx 180kmh at 6000rpm or so… true story. Setting top speed to 255 in-game gives 3.54 in the LUA. Is there another number in the equation, or did I break something?

Speed at an RPM is influenced by several factors. The main ones are the gear ratio, the final drive ratio, and tire diameter. To get approximately the same speed as the car you modeled, you first have to match (as closely as you can) the diameter of the tires that it used.

Note for devs: Is there any chance for us to get a way to set tires in Width/Ratio/Rim Diameter rather than the current set up? It just feels more natural as that’s how tires are typically defined in the market.

Been there done that. 572mm diameter, even had to edit body file to allow it. Mk2 Escort. 95hp @5200rpm.

You would also have to edit the individual gear ratios to get the desired results. If you can find those for the car and compare them to the ones in the lua, they’re probably pretty far off from the real values. It’s one of the downsides of the current simplified gear settings, but it’s probably a good compromise for playability.

Top gear was direct, 1:1.
Other ratios don’t really matter. I could simply set top speed at 180, just looking for the maths behind it (for when I replicate my current ride)

Hmmm… working our way down the line. My next best guess would be the aerodynamic efficiency. If you can track those values down, there might be an issue there. Also, drivetrain losses are really rough approximations in the game so that could be playing a role as well.

Even 0 cooling, 0 lip/wing (mine had both), game shows 171km/h in 3rd at…4000 I think, should be about 5700 in 4th for that. Using mid-sized body, total mass 970kg, 4spd manual.

Edit:
I’ve worked that it’s 35%, just wondering if that’s supposed to exist.

If you can, try playing around with the cooling and wings. Based on those numbers I’m leaning toward the issue being too little drag. Another thing to consider is that the game takes the torque curve into account when calculating shift points, so even if the peak power is correct you might not get the same gear choices/shift characteristics if the torque curve is too different from those on the real car.

Torque waaaay off. 8Nm extra 1000 rpm earlier. Any wing lip or cooling increase takes 2kmh off.
