2017 Dimension Paradox 70XY
A commemorative final model to celebrate 55 years of Paradox production and to signify its end, the SSP team set out to build the fastest car they can from the capable Paradox 6 chassis. Production ended, with Dimension citing ever increasing CAFE standards and EPA regulations that became more and more difficult to achieve with their OHV engine.
The 70XY took over from the KHT model as the track tuned flagship of America’s longest running sports car line with a completely new body kit and bumpers for maximum downforce and to reflect Dimension’s new styling language. Production switched to glued aluminum monocoques back in 2014, with only one year of Paradox 6s using a AHS steel body, but body panels remained fiber glass. Interior remains unchanged, but a rollcage is added for driver safety.
Suspension set up is the standard double wishbone and multilink combo, with coil springs, active dampers and semi active sway bars in a track setting. A downforce undertray complements the body kit and GT wing to provide 60 kg of downforce up front and 280 kg rear. Tires are 325mm front and 365mm R compounds by Toyo, similar to the one found on the Entropy hypercar. Brakes are 365mm 4 piston front and 310mm single piston steel vented discs, larger than the ones seen on the Boson supercar or its succesor.
The final evolution of Dimension’s long running flatplane OHV V8, producing the single highest specific output of any OHV V8 engine with 96 hp/l. A very lightweight motor allowed a weight distribution of 51:49 despite Automation physics, and also decent reliability despite the long stroke design and racing air intake. The engine also shows the peak of OHV efficiency, despite 12:5 compression and a very lean fuel mix, the car can only muster 14 mpg. It produces 660 hp at 7300 rpm and 720 nm of torque at 5600 rpm, with a close ratio 7 speed manual gearbox, the same unit found on the Entropy hypercar to best take advantage of the power band. It is sufficient to propel the car to 60 mph in just 4 seconds and a top speed of over 300 km/h.
A true apex predator, Dimension claims that short of Gryphon Gear Daeva, there is no FR car that could beat it on the track (until the Nine-50 came next year, but that thing is 2x the price.)
Limited to 5500 units with a MSRP of $95,000, you should bag these while you can. Nothing like it will ever come out again. Not in this world.
