DQE - Design, Quality, Emotion

Hey guys,
i know it’s been a while since i’ve made my last uploads. But because the car designer has changed so much that i can’t even rebuild most of my previous designs (and because my gallery didn’t have a name), I decided to make a new thread. I don’t know what will happen to the old one, either it’ll be deleted or it’ll just stay online forever.
Anyways, as explained in the title, i think the 3 most important things that make a car good are design (exterior and interior), quality (build quality obviously, not only engine and suspension but also how well the interior is made and how well the electric stuff works) and emotion (how much you would enjoy a specific car, that is: how well it does what it’s supposed to do, like being an efficient citybox or an elegant saloon or whatever). I think this explanation is very important to keep in mind, because i will always do my best to maximize the score on all 3 of these areas in every single car with each engine.

EDIT May 14th, 2014: Every car that leaves the DQE factory will be equipped with advanced safety options, and the engine will always be direct injected (unless it’s a super-cheap car of which there is none so far). Also, to better categorize engines and to find a specific one more quickly in my huge list of engines, i now use abbreviations which are structured by the following system:
a) If it’s an engine that is used only for one specific car then it goes e.g. like this: Ti608 which is the Tiger’s 6.0 (NA) V8. If it was turbocharged, there would be a t between the 0 and the 8.
b) If it’s an engine that is used for multiple cars, then its purpose (eco/fun/sport) is abbreviated with its first letter after the amount of cylinders, e.g. the 20t4e is a 2.0L turbocharged I4 eco engine.
All engines are built in house and we are also building engines on demand. If you’re unhappy with your old car’s performance, you can order a new engine here. All the info we need is: about how much capacity should it have, how many cylinders, turbo or not, and what purpose (eco, sport, or a mixture of both) should it serve?

So much for this editing, here’s the first car! [/EDIT]

Since i like big pick-up trucks and vans with big engines, i thought it would be a good idea to start with this, the AdVance:

This is supposed to be “Daddy’s idea of a family car” or “Everyone’s favorite school bus”. It’s gonna be hugely spacious, comfortable, and coupled with its 5.0L V8, quite fast too, it’ll even do 0-100kph in 4.0 seconds thanks to the AWD!
It makes over 400hp (i forgot the exact number), around 300g/kWh, revs to only 6000 and is very reliable. That’s how I imagine a big van with a big engine.
EDIT: I couldn’t resist building an even bigger engine for it. It’s a 6.0 V8 with 497hp, 614Nm, 304.5g/kWh, over 77000km MTBF and less than 100 emissions. And it’ll do 0-100kph in an astonishing 3.5 seconds!
Hope you enjoy!

This is the Sparrow, a small and affordable RWD sports coupe. I think its main competitor will be the Toyota GT-86 which is obviously a tough opponent.

You can have a relatively normal 2.0 I4T with 200hp, average fuel economy and good reliability for it, or you can get the superlight 1.5L NA I4 with 240hp. And, being RWD, that’s already enough power to drift it!

Obviously though, you can have more power! Welcome to the Sparrow HP (HP = High Performance)

With its 3.2L NA V8 and 427hp, cars like the GT-86 will just disappear, but even a BMW M3 E92 won’t be able to keep up cause the Sparrow HP is just sooooo much lighter!

That’s all for today, i hope you enjoy it
EDIT: Updated the look of the front.
Cheers,
Tom

This is the Peregrine. You may have seen its design in my old thread but since the old design is gone due to the changes, i went to make a new one. Here it is:

With its 6.2L NA V8 and 711hp, it’s easily fast enough to speak of a true hypercar. Even more so if you consider its top speed which is higher than that of a Pagani Huayra.
Hope you enjoy

Cheers,
Tom

Ok guys, be ready for a bunch of new models!
First of all, the Buzzard:

This will be a mid-range, fun to drive sports coupè. For this car, you can have a 2.75L I6 with 284hp or a 4.0L V8 with 427hp.

And a little bit smaller and cheaper sister of it, the Pigeon:

This should attract young guys with a bit of spare cash. And with a choice of either a 2.0 I6 with 200hp or a turbocharged version of that with around 250hp, it’ll satisfy their need for speed too.

Then there’s the fly, a cheap and economical hatch:

This will have a range of I4T engines, all tuned to be very economical and reliable.

And here’s its HP version, the Fly HP:

With its basic engine, a 2.0 I4 NA with 300+hp, it’s already quite a beast. But if you think that’s still not enough in a car that weighs less than 1200kg, then you should go for the other engine option, a 4.0L V8 NA with 480hp. This will slingshot you and your passengers from 0-200kph in 11.2 seconds. Not bad for a family hatch, eh? ^^

Here’s an everyday cruiser, between power and comfort with AWD as standard. It’s called the Traveller.

you get a choice of either a 2.5 NA I4, the turbocharged version of it, or a 2.75 I4T.

and here’s its HP brother:

You have two options here. With its 3.75L V8 and 470hp it’s already quite fast, but if you add turboes to that engine, the result is a 680hp monster that can out accelerate a Lamborghini Aventador and a Pagani Huayra! It does 0-200kph in 7.6 seconds and goes 371.6kph!

Merry Christmas from me and my newest creation, the Starling!

I even forgot to make the arches a bit wider but i think it still looks quite good. And with its 3.0 I6T and over 400hp, it’s worthy the title “mid-range sports coupe”! and since it’s Christmas, i decided to post a picture of the delicious engine and its stats too!

EDIT: It’s Christmas and i respect everyone on this forum way too much to only give you guys (and girls maybe?) only 1 present, so here’s the new Eagle! First in its “normal” styling:

And then the HP version Eagle HP. Remember this is actually a sports coupe of similar size to the BMW M3/M4.

and here’s the engine of this beast:

Yes, it’s gonna cost a lot, but the result is a top speed of over 400kph and pretty good reliability.
Another thing i’d like to mention is that in Germany, there’s a tuning crew where all the cars in it have 800+hp, up to over 1400hp, and they always brag about their performance when an 800hp Mustang beats a 320hp Ferrari 348. Let’s see how they get on with this, though

Hope you enjoy
Greets,
Tom

Those of you who have already seen my old thread will probably remember the Dragonfly. And here’s the new one, which looks almost identical to the old one (as intended):

As before, this is a performance hatchback and it’ll be available in both RWD and AWD. Already the basic engine, a 2.0 I4T with 325hp, makes it go 280kph! Then there’s a 2.5 I4t with 400hp and a 3.0 I4T with 450hp. But in reality, the only engine that REALLY sets this car apart from other fast hot hatches is the 4.0 V8 TT with 666hp!

Hey guys, this one is a really important step for me. I’ve seen that basically all my cars start to look pretty similar and that none of them looks really special. So i decided to start experimenting with LED-style headlights which i made by taking circular headlights and make them really small and just use many of them to create an LED-style shape. Here are my first two attempts.

First, the Futuro:

This will have different engines, some tuned for speed, some for cruising.

And then there’s its small sister, the Futurino.

This is a hatchback which is mostly supposed to be economical. Therefore, the engine range consists of a 1.5 I4T, a 1.75 I4T, a 2.0 I4T and a 2.25 I4T and all of them are tuned to be economical while still retaining some power.
For those who want this car but can afford something sportier, there’s a 2.0 I6 with 238hp, a 2.5 I6 with 288hp and a 4.0 V8 with 350hp cause it can cool just that.

I hope you enjoy, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE FEEDBACK WHETHER I SHOULD CHANGE SOMETHING OR NOT. Cause as i said, this is a big step away from my usual designing and i want to know if i should follow this path or stick with the old stuff.

Greets,
Tom

The headlights are too small - You’d need more of the lights. It’ll be tedious to make a good looking LED front lights (rear is fine) without the duplicate option.

I’m gonna have to agree with Kubboz, the LED headlights are on the small side. It certainly is a cool design element though. maybe you could find a way to mix the smaller LED lights with more traditionally sized ones. The LED tail lights are pretty cool, though. I also think the thin amber turn indicator on the Futuro is a nice touch.

Okay, thanks for letting me know what you think. It really helps me out, i’ll try to make bigger shapes or mix LED lights with “normal” headlights. And of course i’ll let you see the results

LED-style cars will be coming soon. Still working on some designs, it’s pretty hard (for me at least) to combine normal headlights with LEDs in a way that actually looks good.
So no LEDs on this one. Playing Dirt 3 really encouraged me to design my own Rallye car. And since pretty much everyone in Rallyesports is using hatchbacks nowadays, i went on and designed my own rallye hatchback. I call it Rallyer for now cause i couldn’t think of a proper name for it.

I don’t know if there currently is any power limit but i know that you’re only allowed to use 2000cc turbocharged engines, so i made one and it makes 428hp.
EDIT: I was wrong. The limit is 1600cc. Now the engine makes 400hp. Here are the results:

For those who want a road-legal version, there’s a 2.5 I4T which doesn’t rev quite as high and makes “only” 365hp, but that’s still enough to give you an idea of what it might be like to drive a modern rallye-car.
As always, Feedback is highly appreciated!

Hope you enjoy!

Alright, here’s an upperclass saloon (you’ll notice that the big grill on the frong is kind of Bentley-inspired). It’s called the Royal. I already had this model in my old thread but that was the old design and here’s the new one which also features some LEDs.

Engine-wise there’ll be a 6.0, a 6.5 and a 7.0 V8, all of them can be NA or turbocharged on customer’s choice, and all of these engines are tuned to be very very durable and quite economical but since they’re big V8s they still make a decent amount of power.

Hope you enjoy!

Greets,
Tom

Alright, guys. You’ve seen the Dragonfly on the 1st page of this thread. The one you see there will be called Dragonfly HP from now on and it now features front and back lips (i didn’t bother making new pics cause everything else is still the same).
What’s new, though, is the other 3 versions i made yesterday.
There’s the “normal” Dragonfly which will only be called Dragonfly and it’s gonna be a hatchback of similar size and use to the VW Polo:

As you can see, i changed the front upper grill cause i think the big, slightly grinning mouth on the sportier versions looks just too vulgar for an everyday hatch.

Then, i decided that i would use the Dragonfly’s platform for a rallye car because it’s 49kg lighter than the Rallyer’s (and i have no idea why). I think i’ll just delete the Rallyer platform. So, there’s the Dragonfly R:

Obviously, there’s a big wing on the back of it. Note that i also changed the grill and vents on the bottom of the front end. I did this to fit a massive lip which will increase downforce.
I also found out that the power output of the WRC cars is restricted to 300hp and you must not use more than 6 gears. So i retuned the 1.6L I4T in a way that it now makes 300hp and fitted a 6-speed gearbox, and here’s the result:

I also retuned the 2.0 I4T in a way that it now makes just over 300hp (to homologate it to the S2000 class):

Of course, in the old days Rallye cars used to be much faster, like Walter Röhrl’s Audi S1 Quattro with like 700hp or something… which is why i went on to create this, the Dragonfly SR (Street Racing):

If this doesn’t look sporty, i don’t know what does. Basically what i did was take the 1.6 and 2.0 rallye engines and retune them to make a lot more power. You’ll also notice the reworked front and the 4 instead of 2 exhaust pipes. The 1.6 now makes 450hp and goes like this:

and the 2.0 now makes 500hp and it’s gonna take you from 0-200kph in just 10 seconds! Not bad for a car that’ll cost around 50.000-60.000€, right?

EDIT: Maybe you’d want to take the Dragonfly SR to Gymkhana events. But if you feel a lack of power from the 2.0 engine (since Ken Block’s Fiesta makes 650hp), there’s another engine that i built right now: a 3.0L twin-turbocharged V8 with 700hp. The result is this:

This weapon of massive tyre-destruction will only be sold to customers that can prove that they’re either experienced retired racing drivers, or that they are going to use it for competitions. Then, they can buy it and also use it on the road if they want to, but this car would be too dangerous for average guys on the road.

That’s all for now, i’ll be back soon

Greets,
Tom

I really like the front of the yellow hatch a few posts up. It looks mean!

Nice job on the Royal, too. The only thing i don’t like is the back. It just looks too plain to me. The led tail lights are cool, but the back overall just feels kinda empty to me. I think making the taillights a little bigger and placing an indent for a license plate should help.

The little led turn signals on the blue ‘normal’ Dragonfly are awesome. It’s a nice little touch.

here’s another design study (like the Futuro and the Futurino were, if i didn’t mention that). It’s called the Futurino 2, very creative i know. Well, while the name may not be creative, the design is very different. I took the Futurino’s platform and threw basically everything away. This time i really put a lot of effort into it, it took me more than half an hour to make these shapes the way they are now. Or rather, the way they WERE because i forgot to save it >.< stupid me!

I think this looks more refined than the old Futurino because now i do have a little bit of experience with LED-style lights and so i can make more interesting shapes. Tell me what you think about it

Greets,
Tom

I managed to rebuild the Futurino 2. The front looks pretty much identical (as was intended), but the back is slightly changed. Plus, i made it dark red this time. So here it is, i might actually put it into production cause personally i like the design a lot:

If i put this into production i still have to think of a proper name for it but i’m not gonna make this the new design for the old Mantis that some of you might know from my old thread because the Mantis was all about fancy design, fancy colours and so but this doesn’t really look good in colours like orange, bright green or bright red.

Greets,
Tom

Very nice, I say.

Thanks Kubboz  Compliments from someone like you really mean a lot to me! I feel honored ^^

Here’s a new one for you guys. Just by looking at the front end, you’ll probably recognize which one of my previous models is this one’s predecessor!

You’ve probably guessed correctly. Bright colour, big vents, fat lips, wide arches, 4 exhaust and all that in a compact car. Yes, this is the new Mantis! I’m excited to see that i’ve actually pulled it off to catch the spirit of the old design and express that style with new LEDs.

Greets,
Tom

THE NEW EAGLE IS HERE!! At least partially, that is… i still need to rework the back end but i’ve finished the front which now looks like this:

As you guys may or may not know from my old thread, the Eagle is an everyday sporty coupe (saloon will follow!) with a very wide engine range so you can choose freely whether you want a more sporty one (with up to 900hp in the Eagle HP) or a rather economical one.

I hope you like it, it’s a pretty alternative design, compared to today’s German equivalents (4 series, C-class, A4 and Passat)

EDIT: Here’s the back end! I tried many, many designs and was never quite satisfied with the result but this time i am.

Greets,
Tom
