Drag Racing Challenge ROUND 13: 3 Cylinders Light Weight Sport Budget! Deadline 15/11/2016

@RaduST Dude! Did you just math that up in your mind? I couldn’t do that even with a calculator!

i actually did use a calculator to divide 345 by 3.6 but the result was periodic after the decimal so i went f@#$ it and just rounded stuff up. but thanks. +1 boost to my ego

No way, I checked multiple times that it was under 32m.
Proof:

whoops, i thought it was sub 30. OK, you and @abg7 are off the hook and good, but @RaduST still has fade.

Strange. I will check this in about 3 hours. Thanks!

yeah, it was coming back with -0.1%. so not a huge issue

Revision sent. I increased the brake cooling a bit.

I do intend to try to crank something out. Though, please don’t hold up the challenge because of my tardiness.

Edit: I have something I can submit. I’m just tweaking it now.

Edit 2: Boss Motorsports has entered Il Capo for the DRC8.

That’s right, Il Capo, the car Boss Motorsports used to break into the world of endurance racing in the AP1 Class of the 2015 AMWEC. We went back to that project, and rebuilt the car from the ground up, but we kept our roots. The 2015 AMWEC Il Capo was powered by a Boss Motorsports tuned, naturally aspirated, Ford Modular 5.4L V8 making well over 700 HP.

This version is a little more serious. The 2018 Il Capo is powered by a Ford 429 block that’s running 13.5:1 compression. It’s a true 429, too. It utilizes the newest lightweight alloys, but it’s still an OHV engine. An OHV engine that makes 820 HP with no help from any forced induction, might we add. The car is capable of 0-60 in just over 3 seconds and rockets to a top speed in excess of 225 MPH.

In Italian “il capo” literally translates to “the boss” and this car certainly exemplifies everything Boss Motorsports stands for. We hope to see it be a strong competitor in the 8th Round of the Drag Racing Challenge.

Glad to see you got your entry finished in time @KLinardo!

unfortunately, it wasn’t submitted to me on time. so i will review it, but it’s not going to be part of the official results

That is unfortunate.

it is. it arrived at 3am on the 13th at my end.

ROUND 8: HYPERCARS

we find ourselves in unfamiliar territory, both literally and metaphorically.

because not only are we on the other side of the planet at Swanson Proving Grounds in Atlanta, GA, but we’re also running a 1/2 mile course in hypercars, and it looks to be a close fought competition. lets look at the entries:

1. GAMA Dragonfly - @Nomade0013

Key Stats:

32v AlSi V8 Flatplane Turbo

8811cc

1563hp

Pushrod Suspension Front/Rear

Aluminium Monocoque/Fiberglass panels.

1822.7kg

My Thoughts:

I love the way the Dragonfly looks. aggressive, but not OTT in any way. the interior is not the most plush, but more than adequate for the task. the engine ain’t half working overtime to get that monster power figure, but the delivery is nice and smooth.

2. Birch Crinale @Detsikeulii

Key Stats:

48v AlSi V12 NA

5666cc

772hp

Pushrod Suspension Front/Rear

Carbon Fiber Monocoque/Panels

1408.9kg

My Thoughts:

this car looks MEAN. AND PURPLE!!! so thats all good. inside, we have a decent interior quality, but no powersteering or ABS. hmmm. the power isn’t the highest, but this car is light and the engine loves to rev, so this could throw up some suprises.

FOA Vampyre @TR8R

Key Stats:

32v Magnesium/AlSi V8 Crossplane Turbo

5513cc

695hp

Pushrod Suspension Front/Rear

Carbon Fiber Monocoque/Panels

1442.9kg

My Thoughts:

FUCK IT’S UGLY!!!

and the interior isn’t too great either, but at least all the trimmings are of a very nice quality. this is “only” producing 695hp, and the turbos do kick in rather abruptly at about 2400rpm, but it’s rather light and it has BIG back tires, so traction is pretty good. (side note, my trusted staff had to adjust the cooling before it was allowed to run, due to it failing minimum cooling requirements. it was minor enough that the adjustments could be made on the day, though.)

4. Medusa @phale

Key Stats:

32v AlSi V8 Flatplane Turbo

9392cc

1778hp

Pushrod Suspension Front/Rear

Carbon Fiber Monocoque/Panels

1844.3kg

My Thoughts:

this is menacing. like. REAL menacing. though, there is a touch too much chrome for my liking. the interior is…cheap, but with some nice driver aids. so at least it has that. the power is stupid. just stupid. and to get that, the engine is working REALLY hard. this car is also one helluva porker, so that may count against it.

5. OMG Rock’it @one85db

Key Stats:

48v Magnesium/Cast Iron V12 NA

11018cc

1256hp

Pushrod Suspension Front/Rear

Carbon Fiber Monocoque/Panels

1418.9kg

My Thoughts:

OH GOD IT’S HIDEOUS!!!

NOPE, STILL HIDEOUS.

the interior is for 1 and it’s premium with all the equipment you could need. just a shame it’s crap quality. the engine is MAHOOSIVE and powerful, but the choice for cast heads is a tad odd, but it’s 1200+hp and light, so i can’t argue.

Part 2 coming

6. Smooth Tear SR @AirJordan

Key Stats:

48v Magnesium/AlSi V12 NA

5840cc

878hp

Pushrod Suspension Front/Rear

Carbon Fiber Monocoque/Panels

1236.5kg

My Thoughts:

if i had to choose one word to describe the looks of this car, “bugeyed” is what i would choose. interior is nice and well equipped, but not the best quality. specific output is really rather good, and this thing weighs nothing, so it’s gotta be quick.

7. Boss Motorsports Il Capo @KLinardo

Key Stats:

16v Magnesium/AlSi Crossplane V8 NA

7035cc

820hp

Double Wishbone Suspension Front/Rear

Aluminium Monocoque/Panels

1781.6kg

My thoughts:

this looks GOOOOOOOD. agressive, but not INYOFACEALLCAPSRAGE style. it’s a suprisingly subtle look for such a brash, US company. the interior is quite nice, not super plush, but everything that needs to be ther is there, and it’s good quality. the only thing i’m perplexed by is the strange choice of engine. it’s a crate motor, a good one, but a crate motor non the less. and the alu construction and double wishbone suspension is a little on the old school side for this competition. (the car arrived late, so it’s running with a 0.3s penalty in qualifying)

8. Boliq Vagabond @HighOctaneLove

Key Stats:

48v AlSi V12 Turbo

7540cc

1547hp

Pushrod Suspension Front/Rear

Carbon Fiber Monocoque/Panels

1707.3kg

My Thoughts:

This Moldovan blue beast is very modern looking, if a teeny bit bland. inside, the interior is nice and comfy with a great HUD and driver aid setup, but it’s nothing special for what it is. that power figure is up there, but the turbos won’t kill me when they kick in, so that’s nice. overall a safe and measured effort.

9. Batmobile @RaduST

Key Stats:

48v AlSi V12 Turbo

6562cc

1372hp

Pushrod Suspension Front/Rear

Carbon Fiber Monocoque/Panels

1668.9kg

My Thoughts:

i like the way this looks. partly, because it’s based of an old S5000 car, but mainly because of it’s utterly ridiculous stance. its WIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIDE. inside it’s VERY plush with an incredibly high quality set of driving aids and a boutique stereo system (from Wowers & Bilkins, if i’m not mistaken). the only thing i dislike is the power. although there is alot of it, the delivery and turbos make it all a bit janky and uneven. but still, looks mental.

10. ADM Skyhawk 800 @abg7

Key Stats:

32v Magnesium/AlSi Crossplane V8 Turbo

6998cc

793bhp

Pushrod Suspension Front/Rear

Carbon Fiber Monocoque/Panels

1619.8kg

My Thoughts:

this is another great looking car. i really mean it. modern, not gaudy, and restrained. inside, the interior is nice and high quality, but not too opulent. on the power side, it’s not quite all there. it has a severe turbo kick in the low end, and near 800hp is really good and all, but at that weight, this little coupe might struggle.

11. JHW Sirex @JohnWaldock

Key Stats:

48v AlSi V12 Turbo

3619cc

818bhp

Pushrod Suspension Front/Rear

Carbon Fiber Monocoque/Panels

1541.2kg

My Thoughts:

it’s a bit of a bulbous looking car, tame in appearance, but nothing super ugly, at least. the inside is of rather higher quality than most here, with every thing held up to a high standard and a bevy of top end driver aids. power wise, the Sirex lacks a little bit, but coming from an engine which is about half the size of most of the competition? thats pretty good. watch out.

DSQ. CAA Harpon 830Sp

this is a good looking and light car, just a shame it’s running a 5vpc setup, makinging it unable to run

Results to come tonight

Argh! I misinterpreted the rules… I thought the champion’s pick was just a facultative restriction. Oh well, nothing to do but to wish good luck to the rest of the competition.

Haha. And I was actually quite proud of my power delivery. Big displacement turbos aren’t really my thing.
There are quite a few cars more powerful than mine here. I hope that my 2.5 seconds to 100 will help me a bit.

Awww yeah. Lots of close races throughout, and the last one would have been real close if the numbers were the same. Great work everyone, hope you’ll enjoy the next set of rules

That’s what I call close racing. Everybody who made it to the semifinals had a chance at winning it. Special congrats to @phale, that was one mean machine.
