DTM Inspired Race car Challenge

Over View / Concept
DTM is a real world racing series that features 4.0l V8 Slapped to a full blown race car that is meant to look like a full production Saloon. Given the limitations within automation currently we can not make a full DTM spec car but we can get pretty close. This challenge uses a DTM spec motor with a V8 supercar / DTM / WTCC hybrid chassis. There are a few limitations that i have layed out below but the idea is to make a car that has a 4.0L V8 As powerful reliable and fuel efficient as possible within the given specs and have a quick time on the airport test track. Extra points will be awarded with Fuel efficiency and reliability although there is no budget the cheaper the better.

Engine Specs:
-Size: 4.0 L Maximum Any Materials but must be a V8
-Heads: Maximum of 4 valves per cylinder VVT and VVL fully allowed with no limits of cam profile.
-Aspiration: No limits can be turbo or non turbo No limits on compressor size But a maximum of 12 PSI.
-Fuel / Intake : Maximum of 2 throttle bodies / Carburetors Everything else is fully allowed. RPM is limited to 9000.
-Exhaust : must be no larger than 3.5 IN in diameter and must have a 3 way Cat and a straight through muffler.
Body Specs
-Wheelbase : Max of 2.70 M Minimum of 2.50 M any style is allowed
-Engine Config : Must Be Front engine RWD
-Chassis Config: Must be a monocoque Any materials are allowed any suspension is allowed.
Trim options
-Gearbox: Limited To a 6 speed everything else is open.
-Brakes : Front Size limited to 350mm and the rear to 300mm No ABS TCS OR stability control is allowed.
-Wheels : Must run 245f / 265r Width 18 inch Wheels and a tyre diameter of 620mm Semi slicks are allowed.
-Safety Must have a standard 10s Safety package.

Anything not specified is fully open to be played with .

Scoring
The winner will be decided by a Race in which is run for 100 laps around the airport. Each car will be fitted with a 6.6 gallon / 25 Liter tank and be penalized 40 seconds per pit stop. I will take your Lap time set on the airport track and add a 0.5 seconds to it given you will be carrying extra weight for fuel. If your car is able to do a 0 stop race for every liter you don’t need you get 0.1 seconds back per lap. First place will receive 500,000 second 450,000 third 400,000 fourth 350,000 and fifth 300,000. I will deduct the price of 4 engines 1 chassis and the service costs to run 1 engine per year. While the fastest car may technically win who ever has the most money wins the season Simulating you will have more money to make a faster car next race / season.

and the closest margin is Dark and Nialloftara if niall was just 0.48 a lap faster he would have come in seccond.

Here’s my entry. I went for the saloon body as well.

Here is my entry. It corners, very, very, very well. Straight circuits not so good.

Gentlemen, please. Take a seat.

How can I participate? Should I PM you the lua file? Also, year is not specified so I used current year (2014).

Sorry about the edit but after a conversation with Der Bayer in support forum about what I thought was a bug I decided to remove my entry to prevent confusion, so I used the opportunity to revise the car - cheaper, more reliable, better fuel economy and also faster on the track! What’s not to like?

ME TazDevil
2014 - but you didn’t specify a year
do you need the Model and Enginefile?

Cheaper the better right? Well here is Centauri’s budget entry, the Saber. It’s total cost is only $22302 but still pulls a 1:17.5 second lap, and can go the full distance without refueling. That’s my last edit for the night this is a great challenge

What’s the deadline? I’m thinking of joining this, because I was pondering over the various models to simulate various track conditions in a full racing season, and there’s no better way to figure out what’s best than by actually participating! But I am very time poor at the moment, so may not make it.

When i originally set it up i didnt really plan it out too well but im going to let this be an ongoing challenge and i will update the stats as more people enter. And i will be doing a scoring after tonight to give those that have entered so far an idea where they stack up.

Sounds good! If that’s the case here’s something I whipped up. At first I thought I’d spare no expense, but considering the position of my company and its conflicting priority between racing but also preferring to work with builds wholly unsuitable for most mainstream racing codes, I cut back on the production units and costs by about 30%. This is the result:

Yes, I have recently been playing Skyrim… every time I pass one of those stuck up Thalmor jerks I just want to punch them in the face…

Also @xwing, I’m very impressed by what you managed with a turbo, how on earth did you use that chassis to get such a quick and light car???

It took me a lot of fiddling, counterintuitive I had to detune the engine quite a lot to find the sweet spot between power/weight/grip. Also, barebone crappy interior, too bad I can’t rip out all the seats except front 2, maybe even leave only the driver’s

This is hard, but i’ll join as soon as i have a car which goes into the 1:17 zone

Edit: here we go…

I will join in… i have an hypermiling dragon of a car

So, I’m confused. Are we using Saloon bodies or are Coupes acceptable?

Any style of body with a wheelbase between 2.5m and 2.7m is allowed.

OK. I wasn’t sure because it specifically called it a Saloon inspired series in the introduction. Thanks for the clarification!

Further questions: The safety of standard 10s… is there a specified quality? I have presumed 0 for my car, but I’ve inferred from the weights that some people have used far less. Also, the 3 way cat converter, does this exclude hi-flow 3 ways?

The rules are vague for a reason in real world racing series, teams and manufactures always try to find a loophole in the book somewhere to get that extra 10th of a second but to answer your question about safety there is no option for a cage and a 6 point harness etc which weighs considerably less than the in game safety options so low quality 10s is fine and a high flow cat is mandated.

Oh. Oh okay then  This is good news, very good news indeed!

There goes my Full Carbon dragon who actually shares little with the production Cacique (maybe some suspension components and electrics) not even the engine is similar… the factory car has a 5.5 ohv v8 or a 3.5 I6 turbo or N/A

It also makes the track in 1:21:23
