Economical 2L I4

I was bored of 800hp V8s, so I tried the other end of the spectrum. Somewhat green, somewhat efficient, 99hp in a compact and light package. Naturally aspirated, too.

Open for ways of making it greener, more efficient and/or cheaper for the end user (maybe using some of that wasted RON). Preferably without +/- quality, it’s all at 0.

have you played with the ignition timing, cam profile or compression? higher comp is good for economy while a lower cam profile will also increase economy but lose power. also there are specific pistons for economy too. hope that helps.

Tweaked compression and profile (timing already at 100). Slightly better hp/torque/economy/responsiveness, slightly worse cooling and emissions. To really cut down on emissions would require direct injection (already have hypereutectic pistons), but that would spike service cost.

Going through the engine, I noticed a couple problems. Most notably, the extremely long stroke is severely limiting your RPM, thereby limiting your power. I basically redesigned it from scratch and ended up with more power, better fuel economy and lower production units, although that is slightly offset by higher material costs. See what you think.

Thank you.

I made the bore/stroke ratio less wonky, based on what you’ve done. I gave up some of the horsepower for better emissions/economy/materials cost.
