Engineering Battle Group (Closed and score posted)

This is a battle for the engine designers rather than full car challenge.
For my first challenge I’m looking for a classic Open wheel engine, the car is already built and looking for an engine for the upcoming year.

Rules

Model year must be 1978.
Tech will be plus 5.
Quality is + 5 max (no bonus for less).
Displacement for NA is 3L max, and 1.5L for forced induction*.
Ethanol fuel only. (E85**)
One entry per person but you can re enter or change your entry until the deadline.

Car information

Mid engine longitudinal
Open wheel series
Weight is 900lbs with out engine
5 Speed Manual

Score system

Winner will be based off of best average time of 3 laps on three undisclosed default tracks
I will be looking at the reliability, service cost, overall cost, Etc**. **for lore and if i’ve got time i’m hoping to do a small write (cant believe I wrote right instead of write…) up about the season and how the league does**

Inspiration

Matra V12

Ford V8

Turbo Renault V6

F6 turbo

V10 Honda

Eras of inspiration may vary I just used google

Open entry on the 14th of January and closed on the 28th of January.

Events will happen once a month, two week build times each month will be a different type of engine and all new rules if people like the engine builders event.

Deliberation open until the 14th, help me iron out my ideas and rules, so we can have a smooth open to the Challenge.

So… you’re essentially building a spec single-seater race series, but the chassis needs an engine fitted to it.

I think you meant forced induction (supercharging or turbocharging, or both at once if you’re brave). Regarding the fuel system, however, I think multi-point EFI could theoretically be used since it has an unlock year of 1982 without techpool - but with the default techpool setting in use, it can be fitted by 1978.

Oops yes induction, and yes MPFI is available with default tech.

Which ethanol fuel blend?

Sooo… Efficiency is irrelevant?

E85 Fuel

@Hshan for this event yes, but for the lore and race season it will be relevant. Most of the stats will be used for the write up I’m going to try to get done.

The season write up is going to be stat and time based with D20 system deciding the outcome and effects of weather and accidents into it.

(if i come off as annoyed or rude im sorry, just having some issues with the wife)

3 days remaining.
so far I’ve got one entry from @Dog959 .

Also realized this looks like I’m just trying to get people to make engines, that I cant or wont be bothered to make, but that is not the case lol
(Also hope all my American friends are doing ok in this winter ice storm)

Ooh, damn, I have two prototype engines for this already (turbo and N/A), I forgot! You can expect an entry from me soon.

Zavir’s evergreen Twin Cam (or Q44Z15TA to be precise) goes PSSSSTUTUTUuuu…

Should it rev lower? Perhaps. But 10000 rpm is cool. And yeah, this is based on a regular road going engine family. BMW F1 1.5 vibes.

@Hshan and @Dog959
Have completed entries.
I made a couple (not for the competition but for the lore) engines and tuned the chassis weights to all be in spec so it should be an interesting limited season to write about.

1.5L, 1 Turbo, 602 hp.
These aren’t just numbers, these define the FEVZ-78 1.5ET
(just make sure you don’t fall under 8300 rpm)

How do we submit the engine to you?

Aquila DF3-E85 — 1978 3.0L Formula Engine

Built for the new season’s regulations, the Aquila DF3-E85 is a naturally aspirated 3.0-litre V8

Rather than chasing extreme boost or peak outputs, the DF3-E85 focuses on:

  • Linear, predictable power delivery
  • Strong pull across the entire upper rev range
  • Stable thermals
  • Reduced mechanical stress
  • Smooth torque curve — no sudden spikes
  • Keeps pulling hard past 9,000 rpm
  • Excellent corner-exit control
  • Works efficiently with a 5-speed gearbox

I also wanted to put this in a car to test it, so here’s what that looks like. It’s also really fast in Beam, but that also has to do with the weight of the car being under 500kg.

In 1978, Seaforth Racing chose to create a new lightweight turbocharged B4, in it’s initial form the engine put out 497hp, weighed 136kg and revved to 11500 rpm.

With a fastest time at Old automation track

now this is my first time hosting and its been a riot, thanks for all the entries i loved seeing how close they were with such relaxed rules. Now i dont know if anyone else has had a Tie for first on thier first event but im here for it.

1st tie winners

Autistic Summary System

Heres the wild thing and i just want to break this down because I am amazed.

1:36.75 1:36.75

Narnilla GP

1:42.22 (Record) 1:42.27

Ellisbury GP

2:28.58 2:28.53 (Record)

Eren had 10 less Horsepower and 18 less FTLB than Zach.

Zach even had a bigger power band and torque band, yet Eren was the only person to achieve a power to weight of 2 (engine weight as the cars are again speced in every other way) so idk how they ended up tieing on average time.
