Ernstland Motoring History Challenge (ALT HISTORY, ROUND 1)

Hi all, quick update:

As mentioned before, in September one of my 4gb ram sticks decided it didn’t want to work anymore and died on me. This left me with only 1gb of usable ram, as the other 3 gigs were taken up by system processes. This meant that I physically could not run Automation, which complicated writing reviews as I had no access to stats.

However, come Christmas I was gifted 16gb of brand new ram, thankfully bought before the price hikes. Now that they’ve been installed, from my tests Automation runs fine again and is considerably more stable.

Unfortunately during my absence I have become employed. Whilst this is excellent for my wallet it is not excellent for my free time which has effectively been halved. I don’t remember if I ever discussed how Round 2 was going to be judged but I’ve decided to re-think the way it’ll all be done, to hopefully shorten the time between receiving entries and reviewing them. More on that later.

As for now, I think I’m maybe 2/3rds of the way done on the current set of reviews. Going forward they may be less detailed, but that’s to try and cut down on the immense time it’s taken so far.

My current thoughts is that Round 2 will be judged more traditionally by a points-based system, with a spreadsheet of stats that will calculate a “popularity score” - the more popular a car is, the more favourable the review will be. Of course this doesn’t mean that I’ll just trash a car because it gets a low score, but it should hopefully “automate” some of the worldbuilding for me. Of course I’ll be taking feedback and criticism openly, please just let me know.

I should also mention that there were no bins for this round. There will be for Round 2, just letting people know in advance.

Sorry for the delays. I really do want this to be a properly run and enjoyable challenge, life just decided to get in the way.

Not going to give a time estimate for the next set of reviews, as it won’t be correct as we’ve seen before. Just should be soon I hope.

Thanks,

October

Ugh, I’m sorry. That happened to me a couple of times, usually accompanied by a warning that the draft is being edited elsewhere, and forcibly reloading the page. I learned early on to have anything longer than a few paragraphs in a separate document.

Cheers for carrying on anyway. We look forward to it!
