Frame Off: A Chassis Design Challenge [COMPLETE]

Sure thing.

What I did with my car, is I molded the body to exactly the dimensions I wanted, and made a clone. No fixtures yet, just two identically morphed bodies. I then built the chassis on one, and designed the body on the other. My use of a custom roof fixture proved useful aswell as I copied the fixture to the other body using the advanced trim editor.

When you have a finished body design and a finished chassis design, simply use the copy fixtures function on the chassis and then the paste fixtures append on the body, or vice versa depending on how you want to do it. Do note that your paint slots will also need to be copied over, and you might have to globally save a couple to make sure they copy over correctly if the same paint color isn’t the same on both versions.

Once you’ve done that, you can do whatever changes necessary in order to blend the two together.

Be warned, it is a little finicky, so make sure to do this to a copy of the body, and make backups beforehand aswell.

How to submit?

Click on the host’s username in the OP, then click on the Message button to send that user a PM. Once you’ve done those, you’ll need to attach your .car file as part of the message, and then click the Message button (now on the bottom left of your screen) to send it.

other than the interior havent really gotten to that yet

Where does the engine go/what engine is going in it, and I’d reccomend giving the passengers a bit more space

There is no passenger, its a pre-war streamliner its only a one-seater. And the engine sits just behind the front wheels surrounded by the frame (this is literally my first time making a chassis from scratch.)

My Entry: Vetka Postitsia (The Shark) '37
A Grand Prix Streamliner right out the mid 1930s. It was a small production and Vetka’s first ever manufactured car. Made to compete with the great German streamliners of the time a custom built Flat-4 Supercharged engine pulling 240hp while only being 830kg. But due to its lacking horsepower and weight figures of the time it was not very competitive and only raced twice (At AVUS and Reims).

For submission, is it possible to send multiple .car files for the same car? Because at least for mine it makes much more sense to do that than having to manually delete a lot of the bodywork and some internal items to reveal the chassis.

And for the body, do liveries and such matter or does a bare carbon/fiberglass/aluminium body have an equal chance of winning as a full livery?

Yes, that works best. A livery is purely optional, however, extra brownie points are on the table for a well-executed one.

I may or may not try to improve the car, I may or may not try to improve the post. I hope a lot of people enter.

Alright, with the deadline due in a few days, and only 3 entrants, should I extend it, or should we keep it the same? Also, I’ve made a separate poll for those who are working on cars to submit by Friday/any day

Should we extend the deadline:

  • Yes
  • No

React to this if you are working on a car for this challenge

  • I am working on a car for this challenge

I mean, even just giving people the weekend to finish up their cars would be good enough, no need to keep adding two week extensions because people won’t finish their stuff as there’s no rush :stuck_out_tongue:

The people have spoken. I am extending the deadline to MONDAY, MARCH 3rd at MIDNIGHT
This will be the only deadline extension, if you havent submitted your car by then, you’re too late.
