Frezzing when I add pistons

In any scenario/sandbox mode, as soon as I go to add pistons it freezes. Not completely, the mouse still moves (jumpy) but nothing will respond…

Hi all.
I just have the same problem. I’ve tried almost everything: uninstalling and installing the game again, changing all the options at the launcher (resolution, fullscreen, screen space ambient oclussion and quality) and changing in game options (color options).
Nothing, I almost alwayis got stuck when I select any kind of piston.

Any idea?

I’m really desperate as I think that my computer is able to run this game.
Here are my computer details:
Intel Core Duo E6600 2.4GHz
RAM: 2GB
Windows XP 16 bit
Graphics: ATI Radeon X1300 (supports Pixel Shader 3.0).

I would really apreciate any clue.

That seems to be different kind of error.

There are two logs in Documents/Automation.

log.txt and KeeEngineLog.txt

upload both, maybe we’ll be able to deduce what’s going on.

It probably has something to do with Pistons being the first objects loaded that contain morph targets. (To allow them to change shape with the compression settings).

The morph target shader is one of the most complex in Automation, and the X1300 card is quite low spec’d. As Kubboz stated the logs will be useful. I’ll do a little research myself and get back to you.

Thank you everybody for your help!

Zeussy, what you say about the grahpic card sounds quite reasonable. In fact, I think it’s a little bet faulty as sometimes at some games it crashes and ATI’s software tries to send a log.
However, as I say, in that cases the game crashes: it closes and the error message from ATI appears.
With Automation what happens is that it just doesn’t refresh (the music continues, sound effects seem to sound when I click on a button and Window’s Task Administrator shows it as active).
I think that it maybe a good reason to upgrade my PC  . Maybe, more RAM and a new card (any suggestion?).

However, just in case is another thing, I’m uploading the logs.

By the way, after installing build 110, I’ve managed to select the pistons for a few seconds just before crashing.

Thanks again and I hope to be playing soon.
log.txt (1.94 KB)
KeeEngineLog.txt (8.68 KB)

From the logs, it looks like it has loaded 4 pistons, and all the textures. The graphic card has crashed, and Automation get’s stuck in a loop trying to recover it.

Could I get a dxdiag (Windows key + R, type in dxdiag, Click on Save all Information).

Hi again,

Here’s the DXdiag file.
I must say that I’ve installed the demo in my laptop and it is awesome!
It has a huge potential. I have to try it with a mouse and not with the integrated touchpad to see why I’m not able to control properly the 3D view…

So doing a quick bit of research, and the following note is on wiki for the X1xxx line of cards:
All models support DirectX 9.0c and OpenGL 2.0
Note that ATI X1000 series cards (e.g. X1900) doesn’t support Vertex Texture Fetch, hence it does not fully comply with the VS 3.0 model. Instead, they offer a feature called “Render to Vertex Buffer (R2VB)” that provides functionality that is an alternative Vertex Texture Fetch.
I need to check with Nortala, but I believe the morph targets use vertex textures so this is most likely the cause of the crash.

Thanks!
Well, at leat I can manage to play with my laptop…
I’ll look for a new card as I think that the ATI has been giving me problems with other games too.
