The old mid 90s Daihatsu Opti was a cheery little thing:
I think they did a sporty version where they flipped the grille so it was angry looking but can’t find that one.

On the subject of MX-5s, the second-generation car, the NB, also looks as friendly as it is cute. It’s especially true for pre-facelift cars such as the one shown here:
And yes, this also applies to the hardtop coupe version sold exclusively in Japan - as long as it’s either a base or Type S model. The other variants? Not so much.
I was going to lump the current ND in the growing list of cars with friendly-looking front ends, but backed out after realizing its looks were closer to the aggressive end of the spectrum.
