I will be massively disappointed in anybody who is not aware of this game’s existence.
Early access to My Summer Car results in failed exams.
Sounds interesting enough. Don’t have money to get it right now, and, well, I doubt it’d like my current GPU loadout. GTX 275 is the primary card in my setup, GTS 250 as secondary. I’d have to pull some serious digital necromancy to get a GTX 580 working, both of mine are… not currently working.
I’ll put it in my wishlist to keep an eye on, though.
honest? i don’t
Looked at it, very interested. Seems game premise… yeaaahhh.
Europe really really really doesn’t interest me at all sorry.
lel yeah that’s a money pit i may want to throw my money into.
if i have any left.
it’s basically an FPS GTA with slightly more intricate physics
pyrlix is way ahead of all of us
Seems like a lot of players don’t know how to do stuff in this game when you look at the discussions on Steam. I got to test some early builds of the game since I know the developer so I already have some experience in playing this, so I’ve been giving advice to people.
Here are some tips to get you started:
- you can drink water from the tap in the kitchen or the shower, just turn the tap on and put your head under it (press Q to lean forwards to do that)
- to get to the shop/pub: There is a map next to your phone in the house. Your house is in the middle of the map, on the tip of a peninsula of the large lake. The shop/pub is in a small village in the northwest corner of the map.
- the ignition for the Van is located on the left side of the steering wheel. Be sure to wait for the preheat light to turn off before starting.
- after the guy calls to ask if you could bring some firewood to him, his house’s location will be marked on the map with a dart
Just going to leave @pyrlix’s funny stream here because as koolkei said, he is way ahead of us
Is it normal that it takes forever to load some radio tracks on startup each time?
Just had to wait ~10 minutes for it to load (i7 and ssd) , and then it didn’t react to any input edit: last of which is because I seem to have died in the meantime.
My version of “My Summer Car”:
BeamNG Drive
Tune a car to be really weird
Spin around in real life 100 times
Try not to throw up
DRIVE
No. I have an i5 and the game is not installed on an SSD but it still doesn’t take more than a few seconds for me. I have seen a few reports on Steam forums of it taking long, though. Seems to be a common issue but definately not normal.
In other news, here’s another piece of advice: Don’t do the sewage well emptying job during the night. You won’t be able to see s*** (literally) and you’ll end up like me: falling in the well and dying. You can’t use the truck headlights either because then the hose will not reach into the well if the truck is positioned to light up the area.
After assembling most of my car yesterday, with the exception of the brakes, which I was unable to fill up even with 2 full bottles of brake fluid, as well as the hood that kept popping off, I decided to get it to the garage to get the brakes fixed and the alignment done properly.
I put the hood, a single case of beer, the toolbox and a jug of coolant and oil in the trunk, and started driving, using the handbrake when ever I needed to stop.
After around 50 meters, the temp needle started to go over the halfway point, so at this point I shut the car down, open the radiator cap and discover there was no coolant in it for some reason (probably because I forgot to put some in).
After adding some coolant I keep on driving, trying to keep a slow rate of speed so I don’t die if I need to brake, and to keep the car under control as it was pulling to the right quite badly.
I have no issues on the dirt road, and then I enter the highway, and decide to see how fast it could go. I got it up to 120 before the turn, at which point I discovered that the effed up alignement makes it impossible to turn left while going that fast. Realizing my mistake I pulled the handbrake, causing me to do a 180 drift across the highway and end up ass end first in the ditch.
After changing my pants (and realizing I hadn’t died), I got out of the ditch and continued on the highway toward the garage. While slowing down for the dirt road heading to the garage, I downshifted slightly too early, causing the engine to go boom and a piston to end up in my trunk.
Thankfully I wasn’t too far away from the garage, so I just walked there, and used the muscle car to get my car to the garage to get it fixed.
After realizing I didn’t have enough money to get the engine fixed, I decided to drink my whole case of beer, hoping to black out and arrive back home, but sadly that wasn’t enough.
So now I am quite drunk, with no car, and far away from home. I’ll probably just get the brakes and alignement done and borrow the muscle car, but the ride back home might be interesting.
I can’t start the Van… i need food and beer!!! argh
Look around the left side of the steering column for the ignition. Switch it on but don’t hold it down just yet: wait a while for the preheat light to turn off. Then hold the ignition until it starts (it will eventually start without waiting for the light to disappear but you’re supposed to wait)
Good general advice seems to be this: if you know how to do something in real life, remember all the steps that you need to do to and you will know how to do it in this game. Don’t expect anything to work just by pressing one button, except peeing and swearing. Having a steering wheel with an H shifter and clutch pedal will help with that since you will then be able to do all the things needed to start a car just like in real life except that the ignition is done by holding a mouse button down instead of turning a key.
i’m using the keyboard. Yeah it helped thanks. I couldn’t find the ignition, so i went crazy searching for the keys!!! lol 5 mins driving searching for the next grocery store and got stuck in a hole …
Yeah, you need to drive cautiously if you don’t want to get in trouble, especially since the trail is narrow.
As for where is the grocery store, next your phone there is a map.
The house is pretty much in the center of the map. The grocery store is in the N-W village.
another day, another try.
Pyrlix’s playthrough of it just appeared on my feed. I’ve already seen the demo and YBR’s brief intro, so I know a bit of what to expect.
It took me 16 hours but I finally made a car that runs, last time I cranked the engine over without oil and cooked it, this time it won’t hold gear yet and the brakes are non existent, but there is that amazing satisfaction when you crank it over, adjust the carby and go for a quick spin around the shed.
Next stage is fixing the brakes and taking it to the mechanics for an alignment while I work to pay for the upcoming bills and mail orders.
May I ask what’s this new ‘Dirtyness’ thing is and how I get rid of it?
