FSA (closed topic)

The Siceliota Armi Factory (FS Ar.) Was born at the end of the 19th century in Sikelia and produced, thanks to the numerous sulfur mines, cannon balls from these first productions, after the Italic unit, it was passed to the construction of cannons and with the World War I expanded the business to the production of aircraft engines and precision mechanical parts.

In 1928 one of the owners of the F.S. Ar. he decided to invest his earnings in the automotive sector and founded a small factory which he called Fabbrica Sikelia Automobili which two years later presented the FSA 1750 Turismo Speedster model.

When, in 1946, the production resumed in the semi-destroyed plant, the choice of F.S.A. is to continue with the production of the 2400 Turismo, of which many components are still stored.
The only aesthetic changes are the front and rear lights mounted in the bodywork and the two air intakes next to the front radiator grille.
Furthermore, the engine is slightly re-phased to produce 100 hp.

In 1950 the 2400 was definitely outdated and the F.S.A. he thought the time was ripe to make a modern car

The new car, entirely designed under the supervision of Mario Rossi. With this car the Sicilian house abandoned the six-cylinder subdivision in favor of a 4-cylinder subdivision which allowed for less taxation. However, the tradition was respected with the adoption of two overhead camshafts and hemispherical combustion chambers.
The shape configuration, the detailed design of all the components and even the study of production equipment were entirely carried out by the internal staff of F.S.A.

With the model 1900 the F.S.A was transformed from a handicraft factory to a real industry.

the 1900 was offered in three versions: Berlina 4 porte, Coupè 2 porte, and Berlina TI (international tourism).

In 1955 the F.S.A. presented the model “Lanassa 1300”, so named in honor of the wife of Pyrrus I an ancient king of Epirus, which arose from two needs of the automaker:

  1. fill the assembly lines of the plant
  2. create a cheaper and more modern car compared to 1900.
The main innovations were the adoption of the monocoque, tested in the AR-52, and the helical finned brakes while in continuity with the tradition the front engine, manual gearbox and RWD traction were used.

I think you meant 3600 rpm for the latter - at any rate, a twin-cam inline-four of any size would have been cutting-edge back in 1955.
