what about some odd in between systems such as Bosch KE-jetronic? It’s mulit port fuel injection and it has an ecu but its a mechanical system that has been adapted to a very crude ecu. How would they fit into the game? regular multiport efi doesnt come around in game until '92 and the mechanical system is around form the 70’s and is mostly unchanged. it’s better than mechanical obviously but not as advanced as true efi in the sense we think of.
It is not there probably for the same reason they havent added the multiport speed density system Ford used in the late 80s with the EEC IV, or the computer controlled carb Ford had called the EEC III, there just wasnt that many cars using it to justify a system like it in the game…yet, maybe in a future update?? Who knows.
well the bosch system was actually very common in euro cars, most 80’s injected german cars used some form of it and it was superior to mechanical injection if anything else on cost and reliability grounds. I know other manufacturers had a similar setup, the efi in the ae86 corolla is about the same level of sophistication the ecu being only for fuel metering to the injectors and not very precise either. Maybe we could differentiate between OBD1 and OBDII setups? OBD1 is just a blanket term for early non standard efi systems like the above examples. If we could have those showing up around 81-82ish that would make sense. The mercedes 190e used KE-jetronic from it’s introduction.
It is still mechanically injected though, just a computer (analog or digital) controlled when it was delivered, I still think this would fall under the purely mechanical injection section at this time, maybe in future updates they might add it but I fear this wont happen due to the shear number of potential fuel systems used. Also if the the OBD idea doesnt bring any real gain or fun to the game or just sucks the fun out (like how they described their Gearbox Designer) then it wont make it as well. I do think fuel injection needs a revamp though, modern fuel injection starts as of now in 1988 with the TBI when in fact it was being used extensively in the US as early as 1980 and MPI starting around 1986, as it is now you have to go to 1988 for TBI and 1992 for MPI.
we need another option as well - the “garden shed” injection option
where its just a fat guy with a can of Start-Ya-Bastard! spraying it into the intake and a skinny guy in the car with a screwdriver cranking it over screaming profanity
sillyness aside, as for the tech years of FI, that’s up to you in the game when its finished - you can research tech so you get it when you want it - you could have full MPFI in the 70’s if you wanted - but it would cost all of the money ever printed to make it happen sort of thing - the current tech years in the demo are hard set for the sake of keeping things simple at this point - the revamp coming up will probably help with that too
On the toyota part, its a ECU controlled fuel injection(4 injectors) with an AFM and advance timings in the ecu, at least on my 86-89 celica.
and might i add that the EFI Mulit Point Injection was available on 85 Corolla and 86 celica (for fuel system timeline)
