Before I start this all off, I just want to say, I’m glad to be back, and Dragon Engineering isn’t dead. Rather, they’ve moved onto mods for, if I get off my lazy butt and get to work, BeamNG.Drive and Flans Mod (Minecraft). I’ve rather turned Automation into my game where I can screw around and let’s say, make a family sedan which goes 200 mph, or make a 1980’s supercar that goes faster than the Mclaren F1. That second car leads to an interesting introduction.
After a layoff from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Dragon Engineering, and Porsche, some of the former employees got together and formed a new company. However, there was a significant language barrier between the German speaking members of Dragon and Porsche, and the Italian speaking members of Lamborghini and Ferrari. How did we compensate for this? Hired a translator. That’s right, an idiot who’s only purpose is to speak Italian and German, because the boys had more important things to do than learn languages.
The year was 1981, and the company was beginning to pull together and work on projects. However each project either resulted in a budget that was so expensive that only the people from titans such as Lamborghini, Ford, or some other major company could afford it. It kept going on, with the Italians pulling out ridiculous speed after the Germans tweaking, but then when the budget workers looked at it, it was too expensive. However, in the year 1986, they hit a turning point. It was called Project Hyperion, which would lead to the motoring press calling the company Hyperion, and that happened to stick. The boys got to work on the engine and planning out a body, but every time the engine came together, it had some serious malfunctions, which would probably be fatal to the driver. However, the body came quickly and easily.

However, in early 1987, the Thoron Engine (at the time known as Project Speed) would be designed, with a skull-exploding 871 horsepower and 835 ft-lb of torque. Some described it as, “Too far” and others claimed, “It fulfilled an ancient doomsday prophecy,” but we said, “What do they know? We’ve got something far more powerful than a Ferrari F40.” So it was, the doomsday causing engine put into a body. When this happened, there happened to be some interesting issues, such as enough liftoff that the car would be visibly not touching the ground. So what did we do? Install handmade seating, add a luxury cassette player, and install the most amazing safety of the time. It was considered mad, but hey, at least you were somewhat comfortable in your brain-melting supercar. One critic described it as, “I feel like I’m being struck by a lightning bolt, yet at the same time I feel like I’m laying on an incredibly soft cloud. It’s the most bizarre sensation.” This description lead to the car being named the Thor, and the engine was named the Thoron, cause we were lazy and decided that slapping on at the end of Thor would be a cool engine name. Even with the popularity, there were only 15 made, banning it from the record board, as well as making it exceptionally rare. Only 3 are still in working condition today, but bodykits like that of the Shelby Cobra are hugely popular.

October of 1987, the car was released, and an improved Thoron Race engine was announced. This lead to the motoring media predicting a new Thor being made, which they were right. However, the new Thor wasn’t quite street legal, wielding new semi-slick tires, as well as a new face melting 943 horsepower and 1423 ft-lb of torque modded Thoron. In May of 1988, the Thor R was announced, along with a new Thor X, which was claimed to have an engine with over 1000 horsepower. In August of 1988, the Thor R was released, and minds were blown as the car was shown to outspeed anything before it. It clocked in with a top speed of 235.3 MPH. This was going to be entered in the 1989 F1 Season, but they had banned turbochargers that season, so it was illegal and unable to enter. It certainly wasn’t reliable enough for 1989 Le Mans or Sebring, so they never used it in any races. 25 were made, more than it’s predecessor, and they also survived better, with 10 still in working condition today.

In May of 1988, alongside the announcement of the Thor R, the Thor X would be announced. However, nothing was said about it’s engine or what it would be. This wouldn’t be announced until November of 1989, the month before the release of the Thor X. The engine would be a new “Thoron Hyper”, with 1005 horsepower. December rolled around and the car was released, with only 10 being made. Only 4 exist today, and one of them happens to be in a museum. It was truly beautiful, and it was also extremely fast. It had a top speed of 249 MPH and a 0-60 time of 2.4 seconds. It also had improved cornering over the Thor R released only a year earlier, and it was hugely popular amongst the supercar world.

All the engine stats and pictures will be on the engine thread, when I get off my lazy butt and post that. Funny thing is that the Thor X had a top speed of around 257 or so, but then I lost the engine file for the original Thoron somehow and I can’t recreate it. Please give me comments and opinions, and I’ll see you all later!
