J.M.C Engines | Gone Modular

Hi, this is my thread i will use to showcase the engines built for J.M.C cars/trucks.

The first engines were junker small blocks in 1965, there isn’t a whole lot of options yet

just 3 different sizes for differing applications and preferences.

First up is the base V8 used for all cars, the 289 cubic inch small block.

i think it’s a good base engine.

Here is a dyno sheet/graph pic. for the 289 ci car engine.

The 289, 345, and 402 engines are all variants off the same family, so they look exactly alike.

so to save time and the like i’ll just post the dyno sheets for the 345 and 402,

all three motors are nearly identical in every stat, + or - a few pounds, mpg’s etc.

the only difference worth noting is the TQ and HP, so here they are.

The 345…Bore and stroke…4.00 x 3.45

The 402…Bore and stroke…4.00 x 4.00

Welcome back to this thread you, I’ve come upon what I believe to be a most

Modular series of engines, in 1966…yeah it’s silly. The name Modular Power Package or

M.P.P. The series is based on the regular J.M.C small block, only cheaper with better parts

and reliability, similar economy, performance etc.

Some stats…

They look exactly alike, so this pic will suffice to illustrate the other two.

Same unit cost, reliability, service costs, prod units, economy and such.

The 345…4.00 x 3.43

The 402…4.00 x 4.00

Obviously they have quite a low torque band, this is due to the fact that 2 bbl carbs

are being used and just a fairly low cam profile as well. Not really a performance engine

from the factory, but with a richer 4-bbl carb and some more compression, a

larger exhaust, power begins to Emanate from just 3 bolt on parts.

So the modification factor is there I think.
