Not entirely sure, but once you go out of the tab, the game seems to “forget” your extra tech pool, and disable VVL tech (1991 with 3 tech pool in heads), while reselecting the head “reminds” the game. Sadly when working with multiple engine variants this is not possible.
It appears to be there on the engine designer screen , showing the option ticked and the stats for your engine with VVL. But, when you move past those to the screen where you choose your car’s gearing , the VVL is no longer being applied. It took me a long while to figure out why my car, with the same Body and aerodynamics as Rob’s, wasn’t hitting the top speed target despite having significantly more peak power.
Eventually, I noticed on the final “Design Details” screen next to the test track, that peak power was significantly less and was being developed at significantly lower RPM than shown on the engine screen.
If you move left back into the engine designer tabs, it will still show the VVL version of the engine.
But, if you come out of the Car designer completely (either by save/reload or by returning to production screen then revisiting the design) the Engine Designer no longer shows VVL. This also happens if you create a clone of the engine for a new trim.
Sorry to revive an old thread, but i don’t see any indication this was resolved.
Are there any workarounds?
I spent over 4 hours making this car, and was really looking forward to creating a more friendly 386 km/h trim, with lower boost, leaner mixture, and playing with the two cam profiles and smaller turbine diameters to give it the widest power band possible (unlike the peaky record breaker)
Probably just as well though, the game was re-balanced after that challenge anyway. Many of the models I made in my campaign, didn’t work as well when I revisited them.
