In 1980, it might not have been slow. However, we are in 2016, and if your car is slower than a Nissan Versa, you won’t be ahead of traffic, ever. All of that knowing that the 1.6 CVT next to you has an engine 80% smaller and uses about as much less fuel, while his aircon works 80% better and he is 99% less likely to break down.

I think that might have been a typo but meh.

Eh… the land yacht has it’s advantages too. It’s more comfortable and has much more interior room. Aesthetics also play a roll.

I’m also dubious about the 99% less chance to break down part. If this was a pre-Renault Nissan (2001 and earlier); certainly… I wouldn’t trust my car to be anything but a Nissan or a Toyota of that era… and Versas are just shit. I’d almost rather trust a 2nd gen Town Car that has been properly maintained over a new Versa.

I used the versa as a place holder for a modern car, and decided to use the cheapest one available in the usa as an example to show how far cars have come.

But I still can’t buy the aesthetics argument. Aren’t we talking about the craptastic, everything is square, unimaginative pimpmobiles that 80s full size American were? How could such a car be good on aesthetics?

I guess at some point function and form merged and the old boxy cars of old became pretty.

I guess that explains why form is above function nowadays. Half the shit I buy nowadays looks good and never works. I’m prey to that phenomenon myself.

Lincoln? Forget. The suspension has high repair cost, so your choice is either keeping it (which will make the car comfortable, but it can turn into the biggest money pit this side of the S-Class) or put a standard suspension kit on it (which will make the repair costs normal, but cost $500 and make the comfort much worse).

What is your budget and where do you live?

I dont really have a set budget but I’m hoping to get a somewhat decently maintained car for around $5000. and once again I kind of assumed that the suspension would end up being expensive, but I’d be willing to put normal suspension on when some part of it eventually breaks, one of the main concerns I had was if it would even be feasible to switch to normal suspension and how much it would cost. but as for where I live I’m from California.

Still, an LS400 would be more comfortable than a Town Car with normal suspension, more reliable (I know a dude who owns a Town Car and he has spent $500 on repairs, despite having the car for less than a year), more smooth (you can put a wine glass pyramid on the hood & start the motor up and it would not fall).

And $5k will definitely get you a good one. Even $4k would and $3k is enough to buy a half-decent one. $2k is where somewhat ownable ones are, but I would not recommend that.

Ehh, they both seem worth considering and it will be a while before I actually get a car and I’m not too convinced away from a town car and there’s just something very appealing to me about old land yachts, it will probably end up depending on what I can find that’s in good condition.

Panther: They are neigh unkill able.

If you get a Crown Victoria, do not get a P71, they are less comfortable. Get a P72 or P73.
Mercury Grand Marquis are even more comfortable, some times have Air bags in the back 800$ to fix
Lincoln Town Cars: Air bags in the back, about 800$ to fix.

5000$ Will get you one of these from the mid 2000s in great shape.

Yeah, bit the LS400 is a great compromise,with comfort virtually as good as the Lincoln and reliabiliry on par with the Crown Vic and Grand Marquis.

:joy: don’t get me wrong, although I worded it badly, when I said “you”, I meant it generally. There will be people who always insist on buying from a certain brand despite clear disadvantages.
