Welcome, one and all, to a new hijacking take on Automation’s recurrent meme challenge! Don’t worry, I’m won’t be doing that incoherent word-soup thing again (most of the time). But that doesn’t mean it’ll be making any sense either; 'cause this time, you see, I won’t even know what the challenge is gonna be until submissions close!
So, here is the challenge brief:
Our Client, [Name], is a(n) [Age] year old [Gender] [Profession] and [Profession] living in [Location]. They are [Adjective], [Adjective], and [Adjective]. More than anything, what they want a car that [Category]. They also strongly want [Category] and [Category]. While not as important to them, they would also appreciate [Category], [Category], [Category], and [Category].
Rules:
1. [Rule]
1. [Rule]
1. [Rule]
1. [Rule]
1. [Rule]
Hmm, seems a few details are missing. Fortunately, I’ve created a spreadsheet that lists a series of potential options for each missing detail. There are over 100 potential rules and categories for your entries to target, as well as qualities to describe the client.
First, ya’ll send in entries during the submission period. After that closes, I will use a random number generator to select items for each category above. Then, I will run whatever brief I get as a challenge; eliminating cars that don’t fit, assigning points based on the categories, and assigning a winner. I’ll then generate a new brief, and repeat this several times over until finally, one car wins 2 rounds and emerges as the overall winner of MLC20!
Round Generation
For each round, we will generate for the client a name, age, gender, location, 2 professions, and 3 adjectives; this is flavor information I’ll use later to make each round’s writeups, where I try to make sense of the data into a short, entertaining, as-coherent-as-possible reviews.
We’ll also generate 5 rules for each challenge; a submission must meet all 5 to participate in that round, otherwise it sits out until the next.
- In the event 2 or more contradictory rules are drawn, entries only need to meet either one.
- In the event a car fails all rules, it overflows and is also considered legal.
- If less than 5 cars pass a given ruleset (including overflow cars), we lower threshold for “rules met” until 5 or more do pass.
Finally, we’ll have 3 tiers of judging categories to rank each entry, for 7 categories total:
- One 3 star category, worth 9 points each
- Two 2-star categories, worth 5 points each
- Four 1-star categories, worth 3 points each
Categories will decide their own scoring system; some are pass/fail, some are Cool-Wall style, etc. whichever legal car wins the most points is the winner of that round!
I will continue running new rounds until both:
- A: At least 5 rounds have run
- B: One submission has won at least twice, and has the most wins.
(these are subject to change after the submission period, based on the number of entries)
Said car with the most wins will be crowned the overall winner of MLC20!
Our Client, Zahra, is a 51 year old female chiropractor and dog living in Tajikistan. She is admired, hypocritical, and hyper. More than anything, what she wants is a car that has good environmental resistance. She also strongly wants poor offroad and good sportiness. While not as important to her, she would also appreciate the inclusion of power steering, a poor Top Gear Track time, as few seats as possible, and good offroad.
Rules:
1. Must make more than 300hp.
2. Comfort must be at least 20.
3. Must have entertainment.
4. Free Space! (all cars pass this rule)
5. 0-62 must be 6-12 seconds.
Submissions
Here are the overall rules for MLC20 (independent of any round):
- You may submit up to 2 entries via a forum DM.
- Model and Family must be named MLC20 - [YourForumUsername].
- Techpool must be set to default +5 everywhere.
After a rules deliberation period, submissions will be open from December 22nd to January 4th, at 11:59am UTC.
During the rules deliberation, I strongly invite any and all suggestions regarding the generated categories (as with the rest of the challenge) in the thread here.
Once the round starts, Participants are also able to suggest up to 3 additions to generated categories! Suggestions for categories and rules are most preferred, though they will be accepted in any category (except age and gender, not much to expand there). Notes for specific categories can be found on the spreadsheet, or ask me if you’re still unsure.
Suggestions must be taken via the same DM thread as your submission, and received by the same deadline. Repeats are discouraged, but allowed. I reserve the right to modify or reject any suggestion at my discretion. The submitter’s username will be publicly noted on the spreadsheet.
Idk man I’ll take anything.
It’s mostly set up for normal cars, but if you wanna go full betterdeals with it sure you do you. Or just send what you have lying around, like some old build whose challenge went abandoned or something. If you do want to put in effort, try to submit something different to what others are doing, so you take advantage of unique rules/categories; that’s why forum posts are encouraged with a rule and category each (but not required overall)
Finally, 2 disclaimers:
1: Be advised that “reviews” here will likely take a while; I’m comitted to finishing this, and think I’ll enjoy doing so, but I’m in no hurry to.
2: Since the Open Alpha launched as I was writing this, what are ya’lls thoughts on that? I created this based around Ellisbury, and for now I plan to stay there, but I’d appreciate feedback that (and elsewhere) during this deliberation period
And with that, best of luck!
