Modelling wing

How can I model a wing in 3ds max?

Because I modeled a wing, but when I try to put into the body, the UVMesh appears red, and I can’t put into the body.

It most likely has to do with the placement of the UV mesh. I could send you one of my wings (not the Le Mans one; since that’s Vanilla content, I do not own the copyright to it), so you can see how to make one.

OK. Do it, please.

Thanks.

Others can use this as well, if they want to have a closer look at how to make a wing. So far, all the vanilla wings are made by me and Wizzy, and all the wings on Steam are made by me and Kubby. Would love to see wings from other people.

Thanks.

I tried to put a square, but doesn’t work.

Your file will not open in 3Ds Max 2011.

Ok. Here in 2011 version: definitive_2011.zip (96.5 KB)

I can’t put the wing in the car, because the UV part appears red and vertical ever, inclusive in the sedan trunks.

I’ve got a wing made.

On the UV portion of the wing (the flat part) make sure to put an Unwrap UVW on it.

Here’s the best way to make the UV work:

  • Make the wing
  • Select the face of the wing that will be in contact with the car
  • Go into edit poly, and click “Detach”
  • Make it detach as a clone, and you have a planar shape that matches perfectly with the base of the wing.
  • Add Unwrap UVW to this object.
  • Profit.

Thans for the help, mate!

Edit: when I make the detach, I need to detach from the object and as a clone, no?

Yes! If you like, I can send you my .max file (it’s 2013).
VMO:
I’ve downloaded your .zip and took a look at it.
All you need to do is select “Plane01” and add the “Unwrap UVW” modifier to it. Then, export the wing and the plane as separate .KJC files (I assume you already know this), and you should be set. Also, I am 99% sure you already know this, but Y=0 is the car surface, not X=0 or Z=0.

I can make the UV correctly, but in the game, I can’t put into the car.

Is the UV mesh flat? Does it have an “Unwrap UVW” modifier on it? Is it at y=0?
