More Eletrical Detail?

Will the car’s electrical system ever be something that can be tooled with in the car designer?
Here’s some things off the top of my head:
Battery Type:

  • Conventional Lead-Acid
  • VRLA/AGM (Cost++, Weight–, Safety++, Service Cost++)
  • Lithium-Ion (Cost+++, Weight—, Service Cost++++)
    Battery Location:
  • Engine Bay ‘Upper’ (e.x. directly under the hood)
  • Engine Bay ‘Lower’ (e.x. down in the fender)
  • Trunk (Requires VRLA/AGM or Lithium-Ion, Engine Bay Volume++)
    Battery Size:
  • Bigger Size has more capacity and cranking power, but is heavier and takes up more space

Alternator Amps?

Things that might require a ‘beefier’ electrical system:

  • More advanced Infotainment package
  • Excessive lights

Just a few thoughts. I suppose this might be something that’s looked at if/when hybrids and/or electric cars are added? :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s definitely not going to happen. However, you do bring up a good point about…

…needing beefier electrical systems. However, notice how the more advanced infotainment packages are heavier? In a way, you could say that’s where some of the added weight comes from - so it’s already taken into account. Fixtures are cosmetic only (apart from grills, vents, wings etc.) - they don’t add weight.
