Will the car’s electrical system ever be something that can be tooled with in the car designer?
Here’s some things off the top of my head:
Battery Type:
- Conventional Lead-Acid
- VRLA/AGM (Cost++, Weight–, Safety++, Service Cost++)
- Lithium-Ion (Cost+++, Weight—, Service Cost++++)
Battery Location: - Engine Bay ‘Upper’ (e.x. directly under the hood)
- Engine Bay ‘Lower’ (e.x. down in the fender)
- Trunk (Requires VRLA/AGM or Lithium-Ion, Engine Bay Volume++)
Battery Size: - Bigger Size has more capacity and cranking power, but is heavier and takes up more space
Alternator Amps?
Things that might require a ‘beefier’ electrical system:
- More advanced Infotainment package
- Excessive lights
Just a few thoughts. I suppose this might be something that’s looked at if/when hybrids and/or electric cars are added?
