Im pretty sure that Camaro was designed (and if not built) right here in Australia. I know GM: Holden had a huge hand to play in creating that car. A mate of mine here designs all the car covers for companies that hide the shape of the car before its released, and he told me he did the one for the new Camaro.
Looks like an absolute monster, bet it sounds tough as well!
well those pre-release cars are dirven all over the world to test them. That goes from the Ice-lakes in scandinavia to the nürburgring (the nordschleife) to death valley. (iirc the first porsche cayenne was tested in those three amongst other locations).
australia has afaik everything from desert to jungle, so why not there too?
Yeah, we do a fair bit of desert testing, but these days we dont have unrestricted roads, we used to have roads through the desert with no speed limits!
AFAIK the Camaro is pretty much a commodore underneath, making it also pretty much a Pontiac GTO
Well, a guy i do an excercise program is an engineer for holden, and he turned up this morning in a brand new Camaro Convertable… not his, just taken home from the Holden factory… fresh off the line
Not totally a commodore underneath. GM was going to bring that over here at one point as the Caprice, as a full size 4 door and as a cop car. It was over here for a short time as the Pontiac G8. Just like we got the GTO over here that was also a holden, but didnt exist for you guys in the chassis/engine/tranny combo that we got.
I’ve seen one or two of those in Aus, pretty funky Saw one cruising with a Ferrari F430. Do you find it strange that Camaros enjoy supercar status over here? I sure do.
