My Civic EG with B18C6 and a little history (picture heavy)

Hi,

My name is Erik and i live in the Netherlands.
My first car was a VW Golf 2 1.3, nothing realy fancy but a perfect first car to learn how you should not  treat a car.
After that i had a Opel Astra G 2.0 DTL.
Here is where my car enhusiasm realy got going.
I bought is as a totally stock Astra but decided it could look just a little bit better with a nice bodykit, here is how it turned out to look.

Because of the low power (diesel around 90hp) i wanted more.
Looked at different options like a bigger intercooler or bigger turbo but after much consideration i opted for selling the car and buying a Honda Civic 1.5 DXI.

http://www.xs4all.nl/~brendel2/darc/Resize/Photo-0147_resize.jpg

It was a cheap car but that was about to change.
The reason for buying a civic was because of the endless engine choices you could fit in there, so before even buying the civic itself i bought an engine

http://www.xs4all.nl/~brendel2/darc/Resize/IMG_1838-01_resize.jpg

A B18C6 from a european Honda Integra Type-R, 1.8 dohc vtec, producing around 190 bhp in stock trim. With the engine also came a cold air intake, Full cat-back, Test pipe instead of catalyc converter and a 4-1 ceramic exhaust header.

As i did not have the technical knowledge back then, the engine was swapped by a tuning company (for alot of money  )
Among some other things like bigger front brakes (vti), different rims and they adjusted the ecu for a better torque curve.

http://www.xs4all.nl/~brendel2/darc/Resize/Photo-0178%20adjusted_resize_resize.jpg

As a daily i had a Citroen XM 2.0 which got a leaking head gasket after 5 months.
Then a Audi Coupe 2.3 (5 cylinder, awesome sound) but that one also had a leaking head gasket…
So after those 2 i bought a Volkswagen Golf 4 1.8 turbo as a daily (daily 200hp :sunglasses: ) which was in perfect condition thankfully.

Then disaster struck,

http://www.xs4all.nl/~brendel2/darc/Resize/28032010292_resize.jpg

With a yearly inspection they said the civic wouldnt get trough it next year because of the rust at the rear wheels.
I knew of rust but i did not know it was that severe.

That pic above was taken after i pried there with a screwdriver, it was very severe on both sides and also beneath the sideskirt  .
So i thought about what to do.
Different options came to mind… stripping it and selling all parts for something with rear wheel or 4 wheel drive (nissan skyline, subaru impreza, toyota supra) or buying a turbo upgrade for the Golf 4.
But i decided i would stick with Honda.
I sold the Golf 4, stripped the red Honda Civic and sold all the parts i didn’t need.

http://www.xs4all.nl/~brendel2/darc/Resize/15052010428_resize.jpg

bought another civic with less rust (although it still got a little bit of rust)

http://www.xs4all.nl/~brendel2/darc/Resize/CIMG3618_resize.jpg

It is a Civic 1.6 ESI.
So it got electric windows, doorlocks and sunroof.
It also has rear brake discs instead of drums, front and rear antiswaybar and a 1.6 sohc vtec engine (although i did not plan on keeping it in long)

As soon as i got it i started working on it.
First step: Ripping it apart

Then to the painter for a fresh new paintjob.

And after 2 weeks this was the result (and no rust anymore  )

Then it needed some protection against rust and i wanted to refurbish the complete suspension, braking and steering system.

The engine was offcourse also in need of some upgrades.
First thing was checking if everything was still in good order.

Then it was time for rebuilding along with some new goodies.

Nice Civic. Have you got it dyno’d? I’d love to see how much it puts out at the wheels.

I once saw a Civic like that for sale with an H22A swap :open_mouth:

Thanks,
Never had it on the dyno, plan on doing it this summer. It should be around 210 hp at the crank but i don’t know whp until its indeed dyno’d :unamused: .
H22A is also nice, around the same horsepower but more torque. Although that engine does weigh a little more and doesn’t rev as high as a B18C6 (current rpm limit is set to 9000)

I once got Honda Civic with the same color.

Good to see another Honda driver. I think member in this website drive Honda most now.

You can join us in Chat room. we want to talk to a lot of people.

Nice build, bet it goes rather well

Hoi Erik, nice ride you’ve got there.
Also some nice specs, my compliments.

I bet you still got some “future” plans for this fast little bombshell.

It does indeed go rather well, i just love the handling of even a stock civic (esi, vti and sir) but realy focused on handling when i began building it. It now begs for some good bucket seats because of the cornering
Future plans is a bucket seat :stuck_out_tongue:, semi-slicks and a roll cage, then some track time (maybe time atack with automaxx).

Great to hear that she handles well.

Hahaha…that is always a good investment, especially if you really want to “burn some rubber” at the TT track in Assen for example.

The thing I love about Honda’s is that they are like lego! Know what sorta power its putting out? We get alot of H22As in EG’s and B series gearboxes, a lethal combo!

B series gearbox and H series engine is indeed a good choice. although i do prefer the b18c-R over an H serie.
as mentioned above it should produce around 210 bhp and the vtec switchover point is set at 5200 rpm (plus the ecu is adjusted with every mod installed) so the torque curve feels very flat.
and lego is indeed the thing that got me glued to hondas :stuck_out_tongue: .

thats a great build fellow dutchmen and EG driver!
