Real life uses actual slicks that are 50mm wider than your options. Those are 255mm wide 15 inch tires. Back in the day they were even wider.
I think they run 285/65R15 all the way around now.
Damn, there goes my ace in the hole for a 1969 season…
Something to note as well, after that season NASCAR restricted engine displacement from 7 liters to 5.
I propose we use 205s all around as even back then [1960s] they ran equal, (or very similar) tire sizes all around.
My thoughts on this:
As for the engines, for early years we should restrict head type to either ohv or dac and give a +7 to them as a baseline (with final cost bumped up slightly to compensate)
I like the idea of a single 4bbl carb or twin dcoe as a restriction
I think you need to start a new topic just for announcing with live coverage if you choose to do this, then have ppl respond in topic rather than a PM. It’s a bit more doable, and then the other drivers can “see” when another car goes into the pits for tires, gas, and stuff.
And about morphing: For the 1967 season, I say we need to be able to morph the given body type. This will allow a little creative genius with car design, and if you’re worried about aero wariors just restrict the aero to 2 lips, one on the front and one on the trunk lid. I’d use 2 lips as they don’t give a huge amount of down-force compared to the wings.
(or less, you could specify 1 lip only on a specific location, or no wings/lips at all)
I doubt that this is a 205
i propose that IF we do a 60’s style cup, we allow body morphing, but no aero whatsoever and perscribe a minimum weight
ok so the tyre sizes came from the max size I could fit on the cars in 1967 with no body morphing.
I have found that the second body )which will most likely be used) can be morphed without a huge effect on lap times so I’l do some more testing today and get back to everybody on tyre sizes.
And yes when the challenge starts I will be setting up a new topic page.
I want to include aero fixtures simply so that the cars do not all look the same and you guys are not all creating the same looking car. I will do some research after testing today on Aero and just how much it effects cars at this stage it may be set to 0 to make drafting an easier exercise.
Engines will be limited to OHV and a twin DCoe or twin 4bbl Carb setup with a maximum capacity of 429ci an Iron block with Alloy heads and race intakes and 1965 tech all other options are open and super leaded fuel.
I will have much more data to work with tonight (I love my day’s off)
Edit: @findRED19 Yep the gearbox will be a 4sp UNLESS there wider community wants a 3sp/5sp option as well however speed will not be limited
Looking at max tyre sizes in 1967
So tyre sizes will directly be affected by the body that we ultimately chose
For authenticity’s sake, I would like to limit transmissions to a 4 speed manual with top speed less than 202mph.
Is this doable?
THIRD DRAFT:
1: year will be 1967
2: engine will be a v8 (both cranks allowed) must be OHV, must use cast block and alloy heads and can be no larger than 429ci, quad DCoe’s are banned tech all other carbs are allowed engines must be capable of 6000RPM a total of 200 production units can be used on your engine there is NO cost/time limit
3: body will be either the non camy or the non-falcon Morphing is Allowed which body would you guys like
5: depending on which body u guys want tyres will be limited to 265R15 rears fronts will depend on body and all tyres will be semi-slick +8
6:Aero fixtures are allowed however front lips will not be regulated and there will be a choice of 3-5 types of rear wing (still testing) wing angle and down-force must be set to 0
7: all cars must use 4sp manual (diif type will not be limited) but I will not limit top speed (we should all be punching very similar numbers)
8: There will not be a horsepower cap
9:minimum weight of 1457KG’s
10: standard 22G/83L fuel cell ( I will have some formula’s up in the next few days for weight of fuel)
11: each entrant can enter a team of two cars
12: There will be a beauty contest BEFORE the race and the winner will win a random event skip on the last event
13: safety must be 35 or greater
14: Braking force must be greater than tyre force
15: There will be a control chassis/body that must be used that will be provided (you can morph mod do whatever but not change major components on the chassis)
16: must be front engine RWD no rear or mid engines
17: Total build cost $12000 and no more than 100 production units in the overview tab
18: Do not touch factory stuff
19:(forgot)Cooling will have no limitations it will effect random events however
Finally I will be doing no further testing for the 2 days I have too much real life work to do, However please if there is something specific tat you want tested please let me know…just in case I miss something
I really like the look of the lateat draft especially as a test for a one off event so these are thoughts for down the track.
- In speedway there are sections that have different engine sizes for different configurations e.g. 2.7 litres for pushrods and 2.2 for overhead cams.
- As the championship will cover superspeedway, speedway and circuit types of tracks alowing up to 3 trims with a cap on engineering units that will equal the sum of all 3 trims and the engine
Apart from this bit which i do not understand the ruleset seems very solid.
yeah I havn’t had alot of time to work on this due to work commitments. And thanks that actually means alot coming from you dude. (not meant as a jab more a sense of achievement that I am getting there with rules for challenges)
So with the cooling you will be able to change during events mid race.
So every 10 laps a random event for each car will happen (still working on the specifics) Ie; a small part failure a large part failure a single vehicle crash with minor damage, a single vehicle crash with major damage ( I think having crashes that completely take a car out of contention may be a little harsh for a one lap race) a multi vehicle crash with minor damage etc, a drafting overtake, a tyre blow out, a yellow flag event (applies to all crashes but minor accidents) etc etc.
Where this will become more complicated is the choice of what each entrant does to remedy these random events. I am playing with the idea of running this first race over a total of 13 days so that I can show each ten lap segment in detail of where your cars are and what is happening to you/around you.(I will also require time to do the maths as my excel still isn’t here grrr) This I hope would allow for alot more control from the competitors, allowing each entrant to change their strategy on the fly. As we are all in different time-zones this is what I have come up with to allow everyone the chance to be involved without missing events… Does that kinda make sense?
So with this I will prob run another race after the first with a different ruleset to the engines with a mix of engines/bodies/chassis from 1970’s-2010 to gauge different performance levels for the possibility of multiple class choices.
With the trims I am trying to get info for as many different strategies/re-actions to events by having as many random events as possible with full entrant control over how you react to these incidents, this is also why there is so many laps…Data lol
And remember I’m not a computer person and my math’s is only slightly above average for the sort of area I live in, so the simpler I can keep it with the cars ATM the better( there’s going to be alot of calculations to be done on my end)
Like I’ve been saying, maybe using a slightly edited version of Sillyworld’s AMWEC calculations would be helpful for you?
It has the lap variation and crashes implemented already, but I think it is being refined more.
yep already ahead of you there. Sillyworld is kind enough to lend me his calculations etc but I still need my excel before I can start to see what is working and what is not on a large scale.
KLinardo has offered us a helping hand as an Advisor and is very helpful being an American that has far more access and knowledge with American racing formats than myself.
Gilb0140 has also let me know that he is interested and may help with formula’s excel etc
As it is I have 3 almost 4 notebooks filled with calculations and tables and formula’s so far dedicated to how cars will be effectively drafting depending on their body CD and the body CD of the cars in front and behind, fuel usage at long periods of high gear RPM, tyre wear at high RPM and at high G loads and dependent on the load on each individual tyre and on the angle of the individual tyre, brake usage and wear out rates dependent on distance, force, rate, fade and materials, etc etc etc.
I know it’s all very complicated and still hard to visualize but there is a big picture here and I am slowly but surely filling in the pieces of the puzzle that will allow all of us to hopefully hold some very interesting and complex challenges in the future. I myself have a heap (absolute shit load) to learn with both computer skills in general as well as mathematical ability and it’s a steep learning curve, but I am endeavoring to learn as I go
Looking forward to it, DS5!
