I decided I wanted to recreate a 2002-06 Vortec LM7 in Automation, but I can’t find detailed information on the engine. I know it’s a 5.328l V8 with a cast iron block, aluminum heads, a bore of 5.78 in., a stroke of 5.62 in., a compression ratio of 9.5:1, and uses an OHV intake. I can’t find any information regarding the rest of the specs. Does anyone know where I can find the other info? It would be of great help.
Good luck
I wanted to do a regular LM7, but I think I would rather do this one instead. Thanks!
The previous link is an aftermarket crate motor.
Here are the specs for the 2006 LM7 motor as used in the Chevy Tahoe.
Update: I have the majority of the details worked out, but I’m still trying to get the power and torque to the right numbers. After I get that sorted out, it will be ready for release.
@07CobaltGirl: True - but the automobile catalog specs are not “complete” - in my opinion. The crate motor site listed the bottom end materials (cast iron crank, hypereutectic pistons) so I figured it would be more helpful as a starting point. It even has the factory horsepower and torque specs listed in the description.
@lol101jj: To get the “right numbers” try playing with the cylinder head quality - and keep adjusting fuel, timing, and other things until you get it right. If the difference in horsepower rpm and torque rpm are too far apart, reduced or negative head quality (and increasing the cam profile) will bring the peaks closer together.
I think the engine is ready for release. The HP number is 10 off, but the engine is lighter than the actual LM7, so I think the effect is negligible. The pistons, conrods, crankshaft, heads, and block are the correct material. The Compression ratio is correct. And the exhaust is a single-exit system, like in the Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon/Yukon XL.
Engine released! you can find the thread here automationgame.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=5917 if you haven’t already found it.
