surveymonkey.com/s/KQBCK3Q

above is a survey for the participants (and viewers) to take in regard to the rules, the race themselves and the possibility of a round 2

Thought I would make a little community Challenge Here is the scenario:

You live in the Peoples Republic of Comrade, and being a law abiding citizen you drive a stock 1989 Comrade Clunker. They are top quality cars with top quality engines that are truly built for the people, by the peopleā€¦ however you wish to join an underground league of Comrade racers who do laps around an abandoned airport. Racing is strictly prohibited as it was not deemed a productive pass time for the working class of the peoples republic.
Your cousin Uri has lent you his workshop at night so you can prepare your vehicle.

The rules are simple
-You MUST USE the 1989 Comrade Clunker, you can boost it, tune it, upgrade it to all you hearts content but with a few restrictions:
-You cannot have rims larger then 13" or tires wider then 155 as the police will surely catch on your car is not stock and you will be sent to a Gulag for eternity.
-No large wings, easy tip off to the police
-Loudness cannot exceed 45, if your Clunker is loud you will tip off the cops and surely be imprisoned
-You have a total budget of $5000.00 including the original purchase of the 1989 Comrade Clunker ($3733.84).
-Prod units are not important as it is a ā€˜one ofā€™ car you are modifying
-Car must maintain an overall reliability rating of 55, you have to commute to your day job at the coal mine.
-Cannot change frame style, engine placement, or body shape or material
-Must use Regular Unleaded Fuel
-You must add a ā€˜nicknameā€™ to the name of the model as to differentiate from the competition
-IF you use modded parts and really want them on your car, please send a link as to where I can download them. Otherwise keep it B1418 compatible
The races will be held at the ā€œAirfield trackā€

Some of the rules have been called into question, so I decided that you the people should decide how we proceed via survey monkey poll:
surveymonkey.com/s/J7NH3KD - Poll now closed, data will not be updated any further

****Poll Results are in! refer to page 9 (viewtopic.php?f=39&t=5096&start=80) of the forum for charts.
Long story short, original rules are still in effect, as per the peoples wishes.

Submit your Clunker to me, you may rename it with a ā€˜nicknameā€™ after 1989 Clunker. Example ā€œ1989 Comrade Clunker Commie Rocketā€ I will conduct the races, and post the winners and points

10 points will go to 1st place
7 points to 2nd place
5 points to 3rd
3 points to 4th
1 points to 5th

  • the lightest car
  • most fuel efficient car (times are hard in the republic)
  • the highest hp/kw
  • the lowest hp/kw

**All submissions must be in by Nov 29th 12:00PM EST the race will be held shortly after with the results posted by 5:00pm EST the same day

The stock 1989 Comrade Clunker boasts some impressive stats:
0-100 in a brisk 18.9seconds and tackles the airport in 122.38 seconds. Use these numbers as a bench mark!

I have a few problems with your plan. Firstly, the schedule is too tight. Most of the people here work or study an canā€™t afford to do a car for Wednesday, I certainly canā€™t. You might want to give us more time, moving the deadline until Monday, at the very least.
Secondly, I didnā€™t understand the pricing at all. The rebuilt car can cost up to 5000$? Or I can spent 5000 more than the original price?
And last, why would the every other car win a point? The 4th place shouldnā€™t receive as many points as the 12th, say. You should improve that by taking some inspiration at some motorsports examples.

Other than those niggles, this seems to be a good idea.

Thanks for feed back, i pushed it back until the 29th, tonnes of time to plan/build. As for point system i wasnā€™t really expecting many participants, i changed it up to resemble a more traditional Motorsport scoring set up.

As for the pricing the rebuilt/upgraded cars total cost cannot exceed 5000. Lets say for ā€˜insuranceā€™ reasons.

The game throws me a LUA error whenever I try to load the car:

It looks like you have used a third-party grille or something by mistake, you might want to fix that or people wonā€™t be able to participate.

Darn, i have all sorts of add on grills, i have to really think about which ones are not mods. I will fix this right away!

Edit: put a 1418 grill on, everyone should be able to download it now. updated DL

whereā€™s the car to download?

Should be under ā€˜attachmentsā€™ on the first post.

This is an excellent premise (not just because of the hilariously dystopian communist scenario). If I wasnā€™t running the BSLL I wanted to run a ā€œtune this carā€ race but youā€™ve beat me to it!

Also I thought the car was bloody fast around the track with a time of 1:22, then I realised that was actually 122 i.e. 2:02

Question: when you say no body material changes, does this include quality of chassis, body and fixtures?

Question 2: can the year of parts be changed? Say I wanted to perform an engine swap, for example, or are the years locked?

Donā€™t let the authorities hear of such talk, the Gulags are not so good. The 1989 Comrade Clunker is the epitome of the peoples car, built for the people by the people under the supervision of a friendly Commissar. Requiring only a few hours of welding, gluing and fitting it is ready for the tarmac. With 0 sound insulation and 1800ā€™s leafspring technology the Comrade Clunker rides smooth and will surely not disappoint.

are aesthetic changes allowed?

So download car, and apparently pyrlixgrill4, tune so the total cost is under 5000, have it to you by the 29th. Got it. Worry not comrade, will turn peoples glorious car into peoples glorious go fast car. (Also you should add a 9 to the date, it currently says you wanted submissions by the 2nd)

No need for the PyrlixGrille, he changed to car to a regular B1418 grille.

Yes, I fixed that but perhaps he downloaded it earlier. If anyone runs into any further issues please post/message me. I want this to be good fun for everyone.

edit: I fixed the date problem, its is Nov 29th, typo on my part.

Yes, just no large wings (the police would impound your car and send you to gulag) the two ā€˜smaller wingsā€™ are discrete enough. As far as grills/light go wild, you live in the Peoples Republic of Comrade and the Commissars are not concerned with ā€˜simple exterior modsā€™.

What about lowering, will the glorious road system allow us to alter our ride hight?

Ride height is free game, many of the people do not maintain their car as instructed in the annual ā€˜Accepted Behavior of the Peopleā€™ manual issued by the supreme government. Nobody would know if your shocks were shot, or you lowered your car.

I will take this fine Peopleā€™s Car and violate it with decadent Western Imperialist ideals and standards!

The engine and chassis years must be kept in 1989? Or they can be changed?

Look, here come the western spies!
