Platform/car vs engine

I don’t seem to quite understand how a model or car is related to engine.

I can create a car and save it.
I can create engine and save it.
I can create a car and select some saved engine into the trim.
But if I select the engine from trim tab and afterwards edit it do I need to save it again and will it be saved into the engine itself or is the engine stored inside the model without any link into stored engines?

I can create a car without any saved engine. So how is this supposed to be working?

The engine info is indeed stored inside the model file. That’s why you only need the model file for Der Bayer’s CTC.

So, if I create a car and load saved engine into it and change something in the engine am I modifying the saved engine loaded to the car or not? I mean after I save the car will the engine be saved also or not. I guess that the saved engine will remain and the engine is only saved to the car. And I cannot use the same engine in another car without manually saving it?

I also really don’t understand how this will work in tycoon since car can have an engine which is not saved. So how can you track how many of these engines you have in stock if you don’t have those in engine designer/manager?

I guess you are 100% right.

In the campaign you will move on to the factory tab. Probably (because it makes sense in my head  ) you will not have to save anything yourself.

Oh!, I thought the current model system was an Interim one.

I really liked the idea of engines being designed and produced separately and then mated to the model in it’s production. I was looking forward to things like using the same engine in multiple models to leverage cost savings in scale and tooling costs.

The current system seems like the engines are templates and each model has a bespoke engine, even if it’s the same as used in another one.

I remember that I’ve read/heard somewhere the staff stated that the actual flow is temporary.
