QFC59 - Watching the Weight

It’s 2016, Hutch Heavy Haulage (HHH) had recently done a fleet modernization upgrade and now needs a new set of accompanying company light vehicles to match.

Your job as a dealership is to swindle for HHH as large of a fleet of light economical commercial or commercial adjacent vehicles for HHH to use as Pilot/Escort cars from his total budget of 275k Automation credits

Quicker and nastier

Build an MY 2016 Van, Utility vehicle or Wagon to use for long distance low speed driving, more points for price optimizing for more units within budget

Rules

  • Stable Version of game
  • Car Model Year and Engine Variant must be 2016
  • Car And Engine Family at Allowed to be at least 2006, but do recommend much later
  • 50 Million total Techpool budget, refer last QFC for Clarification
  • WES10 Allowed, WES11 Preferred (Australian Fuels in this time period made hitting Euro 6 a bit arduous so we were legally on Euro 5 or equivalent for a while)
  • Max Trim Engineering time 80, Max Engine Engineering time 100
  • Fuel Type is to be 90AKI/95RON
  • Van, Utility or Wagon bodies Only
  • At least 1 Muffler required
  • Above 65 Safety with 2010s or greater safety
  • No race parts.. I have no idea how they would be included
  • Vehicle dimensions must not exceed 1.95 Metres wide and 5.4 Metres long
  • Interior not required and unjudged.

Priorities

:star::star::star:
Service Costs, Fuel Economy, Reliability. and Safety as a stat and in form factor

HHH wants it cheaper to run, reliable to run and to reduces insurance costs. Effectively 3 star priority is all post purchase costs and indirect costs.

Also considering for the judges, a level of realism with restraint on engineering decisions.

:star::star:
Visibility of vehicle in traffic, Value for cost and how many can be stuffed in the fleet budget

Good to be able to see an escort vehicle, good to have replacements if one gets stuffed
:star:
Utility/Practicality, Drivability/Long haul comfort

Holds tools to help out on site or at least has the capacity to reconfigure to hold tools, there’s a lot of driving the cars in Australian conditions.

Bonus kudos if you want to make a livery, but no points given. Better off made as a separate car.

In which market is the challenge taking place? I see European and Austrailan style vehicles in the inspirations.

RHD Vehicles and Australian spec preferred.

A fully detailed interior won’t be judged or even required, although an RHD one is preferable considering the setting.

And with a fleet budget of $275k, if each vehicle cost $27,500 AMU individually, then HHH could procure 10 of them.

Also, I could suggest limiting tire choices to utility, hard long-life, or medium compound for realism’s sake.

And the $50m total techpool budget (combined cost of engine and trim techpool) is just about right considering the kind of vehicle we’re building.

Woohoo!! Pumped for making something not cool and hoping I manage to not get myself insta-binned this time.

A few thoughts on the rules.

Practicality (as calculated in game) heavily rewards a large number of seats, but the brief describes these vehicles as tool haulers, not people haulers. So the scoring seems it’s going to incentivize builds that aren’t really what the brief is looking for. I would suggest either (1) dropping the practicality stat or (2) limit entries to one row of seats.

“Reliable to run” is mentioned in the top priorities but isn’t specifically referenced as a scored stat if I am reading correctly, and it looks to me like “reliable to run” might be referencing the service costs. Is reliability a scored stat, or just service costs?

I would also suggest adding offroad ability and some sort of performance metric (I sometimes use 0-60 and cornering G’s) as a low priority stats because I think it will encourage building vehicles more consistent with the brief. After all, you don’t want the vehicle to get stuck in mud at the job site, and all else equal folks tend to prefer the vehicle that’s not a total dog to drive.

Thanks for hosting!

Practicality as to compensate for Utility for any builds on Passenger vans and Wagons. The game does have detailed sub stats (modifiers) for the stats, so it’s possible to pick within the stat and compare cars within that. I have a simple ‘Practical Utility’ index in the works. However it is fair to state Utility is the main goal here.

Let’s call it a scored stat, and I can amend the main post

There is a Passat Wagon in the inspirations primarily due to a possibility that some people may not find much luck with the limited options for modern van and utility bodies, and secondly due to being a perfectly adequate road vehicle for the application that is being fulfilled at HHH. It’s not worth sacrificing fuel economy for offroad here and as a bit of a hint: the Triton in the Inspirations could easily be the lower spec model that is 2WD on small wheels

And.. QFC 59 Submission period and Ruleset lock has started. Do read over the rules and do so again upon submission. You have 1 week, pending for any possible extensions (unlikely)

“Oh, Hutch! how ya feeling mate? yea? yeah i got the Fierce Cube fleet if ya want it? what? you want me to sell you on it?
Well duh… it has a bad rep! It’s the Cube”

“But you know what happens with bad rep? It gets cheap! I swear, the 2014 models are going cheap enough for a fleet of 11 and enough to service 5 of em! yeah…
I got one if you wanna come test drive, lemme know what you think of it…”
