Priorities

:star::star::star::star::star:

Design - Max wants a nice looking car, so something easy on the eyes would be appreciated by her and her family. It also has to be realistic, so no LED DRLs or things like that.

:star::star::star::star:

Drivability - It’s an automation challenge, what challenge doesn’t have drivability and or sportiness at the top.

Practicality (Scored by cargo capacity and footprint in addition to the raw stat of practicality.) - Max has a family of six, so something that could take her family around, and haul all their associated junk would be useful. So something with a lot of seats, or a lot of space would be appreciated.

Reliability - Max would like to drive her car, as well as letting her family drive it as well. Buying something unreliable would cause her to rethink the “Japanese Reliability" she’s heard so much about.

:star::star::star:

Running Costs (Fuel Economy and Service Costs) - Max can barely turn a wrench, much less point to what the transmission is on her car, so something cheap to service would be an ideal purchase for her. Max also wishes to not have to wince when the Attendant comes over to fill her tank after having just moved there.

Comfort - Max isn’t looking for Maximum Ride quality, she just doesn’t want to drive a vehicle equivalent to a poorly balanced laundry machine.

Price - Max just moved her six person family to Japan, and thus has a lighter wallet than she normally does. Something on the cheaper side would be ideal for her.

:star::star:

Offroad - While the town’s roads are all well paved, it is a rural place, and a bit of soft off-roading action might be required.

Utility - While Max won’t be using it as a traditional cargo van, she doesn’t want the brakes to boil and suspension to drop to the road if she loads in anything heavier than her family.
Safety - Max doesn’t want her and her whole family to die when she gets into a fender bender, but due to the secluded nature of this area, she doubts she’ll get into many crashes with other people.

:star:

Sportiness - Just because its JDM doesn’t mean it’s a Supra. Max doesn’t really care about going fast nor cornering hard, she just wants something to haul her family around.

Prestige - She doesn’t want a Rolls-Bently-Martin-orghini, nor does she really care about if a brand has made a some insano supercar, she’s just buying a van for her and her family.

i have the subtly of a brick :sob:

I would suggest increasing the minimum seating capacity to six, just to ensure that Max can carry his entire family all at once in a single vehicle.

They may not be dedicated performance cars, but anything that’s too slow or has terminal understeer or oversteer is off the table.

I’m not sure if that was even available at all in Japan in 1994, but it’s still cheaper than any unleaded fuel the game offers us.

That sounds just about right considering the low-budget nature of this QFC.

Are cats required?

No, but to allow crazy people to reach the emissions rule without catalytic converters, like Honda did in the 70s, if they so please. But it is advisable to still use them.

Or like me who can hit wes 8 with pushrods SPI and not cats muhahahaha

Oh, just to verify a rules question - when you mention service costs, you’re referring to the one in the Summary->Statistics tab, the one that CSVExporter grabs, right? Not the (far lower) one in Detailed Stats->Running Costs?

Yes

Is that techpool cost of 10M only for the car or for the car AND engine?

Car and the engine.

I strongly advise dropping the Utility raw stat. Last I checked, it was utterly meaningless, largely based on towing ability that itself is a great example of one proposed etymology of “analysis”, where “ysis” means “to pull numbers out of”. Practicality has its own voodoo, but it least isn’t totally random. I instead advise evaluating both either holistically, or digging probably way deeper than QFC warrants through detailed stats. You don’t have to exhaustively consider all permutations of everything, but you should be able to point to exactly what factors most and least contributed to any difference in scores.

Oh yeah :sob:

I kinda forgot that Utility was dumb. Sorry. But I will be keeping practicality, since it seems relatively straight forward, with basically a dumb version of it being more trunk space = higher practicality, where a longer wheelbase increase practicality, and a higher seat count, decreases it.

So for utility, I’ll just be checking what it said in the priority blurb, and checking if there’s utility brake fade and no warning for the load capacity.

And also I should probably clarify that for the Footprint priority, it means a smaller footprint is better. Whoops pt.2…

oh that would explain why my preliminary car making would crumble my stats when trying for more utility

I’d doublecheck that if I were you.

Load capacity and the related utility brake fade is another hugely broken mechanic in the game.

For the sake of not flooding the forum with images as one scrolls...

91.7 inch wheelbase, 5 door

114 inch wheelbase, also 5 door

Yeah I got it wrong, whoops, I was going off memory of a niche stat. :person_shrugging:

I’m just basing it off the graphic here,

and the associated warning if your spring stiffness is too low

So if these are present, it would be deducted points from the Utility category, I’m not going off the raw stat.

Man, every time I play this game, the more it confuses me… I was basing off the footprint and practicality stat has the larger vans will have better practicality, but if a kei van can get extra points from the footprint, while being decently competitive in other areas, it’d be viable. But apparently not, since smaller cars are somehow more practical. Somehow. Every day I grow more insane because of this game…

Major Rule Change Everyone !!!!!

Due to the games practicality stat making zero sense, I will be changing some scoring in regards to footprint and practicality. Practicality will now be scored under cargo capacity and footprint in addition to practicality, which hopefully will make more sense and be better scored than just the raw stat.

Sorry for the last minute rule change, but hopefully it will lead to better and more realistic scoring. (Does he know)

What I’ve gathered regarding practicality is that it’s basically measuring how easy the vehicle is to use in a rather holistic manner. Whether you can put a bunch of stuff and people in the car is part of that, but it’s also how easy it is to get in and out and how easy it is to park or drive in tight spaces. I don’t think it’s really a “broken” stat, just one that requires balance rather than maximizing in one particular direction of size.

I’m also not sure why utility is seen as a “broken” stat. I for quite some time was confused by the towing component in the stat, but it turns out that you can get pretty good towing numbers with a short first gear and a torquey engine, just like you would in a real truck with decent towing capacity. Yes, you do have to really commit to the bit to get the utility score up, and it can require some significant sacrifices in other stats, but I don’t know why that would make it “broken.” I’m sure there is something I’m missing here because I know @moroza to be someone with a lot of well thought out opinions, but I figured I’d share my two cents.

In other words, I’m not sure it’s really worth your time and energy to drive yourself crazy manually re-balancing and measuring these stats, especially for a QFC.
