The Kei car market just hit Fruinia and the people yearn for cheap, hyper mileage, but still fun to drive cars. The market is barren at the moment so an influx of companies are trying to fill it quickly to cash in on the new tax break the government is offering for cars that meet the guidelines. So lets see how the early Kei cars of Fruinia fill in the market.

What about Model and Family names?
Anything goes or should it be something like QTE1 - Username?

2 Likes

yeah QTE1 sorry ill update that oversight

Gentlemen’s agreement as in the car has “55” hp (actually 75 just not advertised as it)?

3 Likes

Sir that would be dastardly, ill have you know the car makes 55 hp @6200 its none of your concern that the redline is @7600

Since there is no limit on advanced trim settings or minimal safety requirement i decided to make a 2.1 safety death trap - Hexe Ashleigh GT1 sporting a 0.55L V6 and AWD for no particular reason. It makes 55hp at 6800 RPM but revs to 11000.

1984 Kumo Raito

“The Ultimate Driving Machine?” Not Even Close. But… This Car Drives Like a Sports Car!*

Feel the rush of acceleration (eventually). Feel the road (all of it). The 1984 Kumo Raito offers a driving experience that might remind you of a sports car if you squint really hard and imagine one. Powered by a groundbreaking 550cc engine, it delivers a blistering 36 horsepower and reaches speeds of up to 87 mph!

Features That Will Leave You Breathless:

  • Racing-Inspired Acceleration – 0 to 60 mph ✓
  • Precision Handling – Because it’s so small, it feels like a go-kart.
  • Exotic Design – People will stare (probably).
  • Efficiency – Drive to the moon and back (figuratively) on a single tank.*

The 1984 Kumo Raito isn’t just a car. It’s a lifestyle. It’s a statement. It’s… well, its mostly just a car.

Starting at $7980!
*Just like a sports car, this car uses an internal combustion engine for power, and uses wheels as a means of steering. therefore making this car drive the same way a sportscar would.
*Cars cannot drive in space, but with 50 mpg this car is out of this world!

Can we submit more then one entry?

2 Likes

Normally no, but since this is the first and there’s not much hype around it people can enter two cars each this time. Just don’t make them rebadges or ill dock points :rofl:
@arthur_mp (sorry I always forget to actually tag people in replies)

I know you said no rebadges, but can I make a turbo version of my first entry as my second entry?

2 Likes

No, you’re welcome to update it to the version you submit the turbo version in place of the NA version. the reason I’m allowing the multi entry is to try and drive diversity to the field.

Full disclosure I’m working on a competition that will have entrants submit multiple trims of the same cars for testing, but that’s still a ways off.

1984 VIRTUE TURBO

Ever heard that weight matters more then power? That driving feel is more important then speed?

For those that love the pleasure of driving, without the dangers of the all powerful supercars

Unleash all the might of the 550cc Turbo, with its 9500rpm of 4 cylinder passion screaming behind you.
Feel all the 55hp on your climb to 6000rpm, and dare to discover what lies beyond.

And while at it, why not do the groceries on the way back home utilizing all the space under the frunk?

After all that, watch your neighbours turn their heads at your uniquely designed car as you arrive.

All that packed in this small car, and yours for only $11.000

Kumo Ratio
As the sales ad said, this is a car. It is the Cheapest of the KEI cars hitting the show rooms for 1982 at just 7,980. I expect it to be a hit with low income working class looking to get the Kei tax break and saving on fuel, as it has class leading 51MPG. The Downside is there’s no soul in the drive, it feels like a means to an end and not much more.

@Nolan_Cables

Virtue Turbo
Ever wanted a sports car but cant afford it? this is a solid choice as it offers a Rear engine layout and a nimble tune. The Virtue Turbo is one of the best all around KEIs and we found it was the most reliable KEIs we got the chance to test. The downside to the Virtue is it leaves you feeling like an imposter. It says I’m a sports car, but its under its breath and there’s a strong breeze making it hard to hear.
@arthur_mp

Hexe Ashleigh GT
If you want the KEI tax credit but want a road legal race car this is the car for you, it was by far the fastest , lightest weight, and best driving car. Best of all it fits firmly against the market cap of 15,000. The Ashleigh GTs down side is well much like the Fauxrrari F40 GT there is really no comfort and your back feels like an sixty year old ex line backer after a drive.

Hexe Hallie PCC
Another entry from Hexe we have what is projected to be best selling and by far the most comfortable. This is a stark contrast to the Ashleigh GT, it offers room for your family and loads of cargo space (For a KEI) The Hallie PCCs main down side is that well its a mini-minivan, not a big downside and definitely has its place in the market clearly as its probably going to sell triple what the other KEIs are.
@Isabella

After swapping out seats all weekend I have to say that the one I would take home for myself is the Hallie PCC because it can fit my family in and the Inline six has such a nice engine note (ill be twin charging mine). The Ashleigh will be on tracks soon no doubt and the Virtue Turbo will be the go to for mini sports drives. The Raito how ever I fill will see solid sales and be a daily for lots of people, but I will hold out for the 83 model with its factory turbo trim.

A big thanks to everyone for turning in for my challenge and to everyone who tuned in to see the work put into it.
I appreciate that all the entries had different engine styles and suspension set ups some how, and look forward to anothere pop up event at some point.
