RIGEL MOTOR - Spanish brand

si, senor, but that would take days just to take the screenshots of all my cars I built this year.
I also have fake diesel engines by setting the cam profile low and the valve stiffness to soft, as well as getting up with compression. But I installed them in the delivery vehicles and larger cars, as a Diesel would be an advantage only for frequent travellers. If you want a Diesel in a smaller vehicle, Rigel doesn’t have a lot of competition here.

RIGEL NAVIO 1995 SUV

At the end of the 80s, the development of a range of multi-purpose SUVs for the European market began, which ended with the creation of the Pizarro. Since then, the brand has tried to make the leap from Europe to the United States and be able to take a slice of the juicy cake of the thousands of vehicles that circulate on the roads of Canada, the United States and Mexico. Thus, in 1995, the Rigel Navío landed, an SUV with V6 and V8 engines, high-quality finishes and a very competitive price.

In December 1995 it will be available, we leave you a preview of the billboard.

Looks American with another light European influence, like a mix of Ford Explorer and Opel Frontera. It fits very well what it should be.

With macho styling like that, there’s no doubt it would have been a hit on both sides of the Atlantic!

Thanks friend! The idea was to create the Pizarro (European 4x4) in an American V8 version of 5 meters long. Soon I will upload the first models!

A good v8 SUV for the good Texan MACHO! hahaha

Rigel Navio (1995)

At the end of the 80s, the development of a range of multipurpose SUVs for the European market began, which ended with the creation of the Pizarro. Since then, the brand has tried to make the leap from Europe to the United States and be able to take a slice of the juicy pie of the thousands of vehicles that circulate on the roads of Canada, the United States and Mexico. Thus, in 1995, the Rigel Navío landed, an SUV with V6 and V8 engines, high-quality finishes and a very competitive price.

History of the brand in the United States: in 1994 two Rigel subsidiaries are created, which will be supervised, controlled and financed by Rigel Europe. The first of these was ASIA Rigel, which would be in charge of importing, marketing, designing and selling vehicles in countries like Japan or China. The other subsidiary would be called North Rigel and would be in charge of the distribution and manufacture of Rigel models made in the United States. In the early 1990s, Rigel (through heavy funding) was able to convert a steel mill in the state of Kansas into a modernized factory with some automation for manufacturing a couple of independent vehicle lines. In this way, more vehicles could be created without sacrificing existing production in Europe and being able to both design and manufacture twice as many vehicles at the same time.

The key to success is “Made In U.S.A ``: aware of the importance of local manufacturing for these countries, it was very important that there was no importation of vehicles from Europe that would take away the market from local vehicles such as Ford or Chevrolet. The important thing was to resort to a technique that the Japanese carried out with great success, which was to give work to local people and manufacture 100% American vehicles, in this way we promote employment and position yourself positively over existing brands.

RIGEL NAVIO: The Navío is the largest vehicle produced to date by the Spanish company (5270 mm), this new vehicle is a large SUV and a luxurious appearance to create a rival Ford Explorer or Chevy Suburban. Prepared with the best equipment and the highest possible quality to comfortably accommodate up to seven passengers or to carry luggage. Highly efficient engines, both V6 and V8, maximizing power and minimizing fuel consumption. All engines can be used with lower octane, refueling more specific gasoline for high altitude environments. Its interior is based on controlled luxury and technology, finally being able to deliver an efficient, safe, durable product at a contained price close to $20,000 (High Range) in 1995.

LT: Good things have a beginning, this is the Navío LT. It’s not basic, but it has everything an average American family needs in their life, a large interior space in two-tone gray-blue fabric and with the capacity for a third row of seats to take your children’s friends to baseball. Stay warm with air conditioning, ABS safety, dual front airbags, and the convenience of power steering and power windows. With this fantastic equipment we almost forgot about its engine, a 3.7-liter V6 with 190 horsepower, don’t spend too much, it’s just what you need. Rear-wheel drive and 5-speed manual gearbox.

XLT: It’s good to stand out, and even better in an XLT. 5 meters of chrome and a cream leather interior is enough of an argument to understand what an XLT is. If you need luxury, take a look at its interior upholstered entirely in cream leather and trimmed in wood, all the comforts such as cruise control, ECO mode, ROUTE Nav (car status browser), automatic gearbox and various exterior customization options with its metallic colors. Pair the XLT with a 4.3-litre V6 or a 5.7-litre V8, that’s up to you! If you fancy a walk in the countryside, don’t worry! Its height and the addition of low protectors will prevent you from having a hard time.

Again a great interior, the folded seats in the rear are a very clever detail i haven’t thought of yet.

Rigel Odiel

At the end of 1995 in the showrooms the new sedan of the Spanish brand Rigel begins to be seen, we are talking about a compact sedan that grows 20 cm with respect to the Rigel Tinto and will be offered in versions with five and four doors. The new compact sedan of the brand is called ODIEL, it will be the new warrior that will make its way in the competitive world of three-volume vehicles. The offer begins with two very different versions, first we find the so-called “Hatchback” that will have five doors and a tailgate with a wide and practical access mouth, on the other hand, we have the “Sedan” that will offer a more classic vehicle with four doors.Rigel puts all their attention and budget into their new model and they hope it will be a sales success and that it will open a gap in the very competitive market of European sedans. The mechanical offer and the different trims is quite wide, being able to count on diesel and gasoline engines, up to four different trims depending on the needs of the customers.

Development: The sedan market in the 90s was especially competitive and we could find great competitors such as the Opel Astra sedan F, the Ford Escort and many other vehicles. In this case, Rigel decided to develop, since the launch of the Tinto (1992 ), a sedan to which the same chassis of the Tinto would be placed but making it almost 30 cm longer. The result would be a modern but compact sedan, ideal for European streets, with a totally renewed, fresh and technological interior.

The configuration of the vehicle by customers will begin with the choice between the model called Hactback and the Sedan model.

Hatchback: Its longer C-pillar gives it the possibility of incorporating a large tailgate, thus creating a very wide and practical boot opening. In this option, the rear window would be divided between the door and the end of the C-Pillar.

Sedan: The most classic option and preferred by many consumers. We find the perfect compact vehicle with three volumes, where the C-pillar is located on the rear wheel, and the rear glass is divided between the rear door and the C-pillar. In its trunk we will find a classic opening and a narrower mouth but much more stylized.

Engines: the Rigel Odiel engine offer at its launch includes four
gasoline engines and two diesel engines. These motors are configured in such a way that, depending on the version chosen, we can have a greater choice of motors in the configuration. It is worth noting the development of three new gasoline engines called G4 with four cylinders and 16 valves with double overhead trees, on the other hand, the European variant of the V6 engine mounted on the Rigel Navío, in this case a 3 L V6 that yields a power of almost 170 horsepower mounted only on the most exclusive versions of the model.

Rigel Odiel Trims

Driver: The Driver is the version of access to the range, despite being the most economical does not mean that its equipment is simple. In the Driver version we can count as standard with hubcaps, fog lights, ABS as standard, double front Airbag for driver and passenger, central locking, vehicle status system, cruise control among others, in addition this equipment can be completed with the different options at extra cost. Essential, practical and perfect for day to day, being able to mount diesel and gasoline engines.

Comfort: the mid-range of the Odiel stands out for its aggressive and elegant lines, the comfort version is focused on the community for its passengers and ease of driving. Among its standard equipment we can count on a progressive suspension, power steering, white leather interior and aluminum inserts. The offer of comfort in terms of engines is extended and expanded with the possibility of an automatic gearbox.

Sport: the Sport version condenses the fun of a racing car and the safety of a sedan. The rigidity of its chassis in combination with an active sports suspension and a lower ground clearance create the perfect vehicle. Its standard equipment can be its five-spoke Sport alloy wheels, exclusive red leather interior, its double exhaust outlet or the spoiler on the trunk with a third brake light incorporated.

Plus Ultra: The pinnacle of the range is expressed in Plus Ultra, the Latin name used in the Spanish coat of arms. The Plus Ultra version mounts as standard four-wheel drive called 4DRIVE and is combined with its V6 engine, an excellent, smooth and powerful drive. It is the first European Rigel vehicle to be fitted with a V6 petrol engine. This model features Level 2 driving aids that integrate ABS and traction control, plus upgraded suspension and a completely redesigned interior in brown leather and wood. Its Comfort-Relax seats have been created by an independent study, resulting in the greatest comfort seen to date in a Rigel vehicle for its driver and passengers. Its automatic gearbox will make driving this vehicle like floating through the clouds.

Wheels: The range is composed at launch with a single hubcap and three alloy wheels. The Driver model will only have available sheet metal wheels and the placement of a trim, the other models will be able to choose between three modern alloy wheels that will range from 5.7 and multi-spoke in silver.

Interiors: the range of interiors will be fixed to the selection of the vehicle variant, not being able to choose, as in the case of the wheels, a different interior for a certain finish. In gallery order we find:

Driver interior: dashboard made of hard plastic and rubber to dampen outside sound, black fabric interior and blue fabric panels.
Comfort interior: dashboard covered with fabric to improve the feeling of quality, interior in white and gray synthetic leather and mixed fabric, as well as central armrest and aluminum inserts.
Sport interior: racing-style suede dashboard, red leather interior and white panels, plus red inserts on the dashboard.
Interior plus Ultra: two-tone dark brown and caramel leather comfort relax seats, plus high-quality wood inspections.

Again a very nice car from Rigel that looks both realistic and Spanish. The 3.4 V6 might be a little over the top, but cars like the Peugeot 406 had a 3.0 V6, so these strong engines were not limited to the C-Class or 3-series.
The only thing I would definitely change are the radios - they are way too old-fashioned and do not fit the rest.

Hello! The V6 3L is designed to compete with v6 models such as the Mondeo, Xantia, Laguna and other similar cars. On the other hand, it is a good base for future Renault Espace-style large minivan engines.

For the radios, I placed a station selector with saved station buttons above and a cassette below (in the central console). I wanted to place a compact disk but by 1995 I saw it as very modern. If in the near future at 2000 the CD was placed instead of the cassette

If you want, you can send me the car in automation format and I will build a custom radio like I did in the latest Primus, because there wasn’t a fixture for a very early navigation system. I can do that, no problem.

Not begging for someone to do them, but some radios would be a welcome mod. It feels like if we now have 50s stuff, late 70s/early 80s and modern stuff and choose between. Some huge gaps there to be filled…

From what I know, the entire Odiel line is built on one of the '88 Indicator body sets - I reckon it’s the smallest full set, with a 2.55m wheelbase. But why does the Plus Ultra’s V6 develop only a little bit more power than the Sport trim’s I4? I’m guessing it’s tuned for torque, not power, and therefore more suited to applications in small executive cars. At any rate, I’m sure it’s an SOHC unit, not a DOHC one like the G4, but still with four valves per cylinder instead of two.

Hello! Thanks for commenting and taking a look at the engines, it is appreciated.
The V6 engine, from the beginning I wanted it to be more powerful but my little engineering has not allowed me to obtain more power. I wanted it to be around 180/190 horsepower, but atmospheric. In the end it fell short because I designed it in such a way that it was the most efficient and had less gas consumption. The result is a V6 engine that has 35% more torque and only 5 horsepower more than the G4 (Tinto GTRS engine that I never uploaded to the forum)

The solution is on the way, a new coupe variant with crossover engines between the 100HP and 155HP G4s. Any advice? Thank you!

A DOHC 24v version of the V6, tuned for more power (around 225-240 bhp), would be a great choice for a range-topping super-high-performance trim - but the resulting variant would have to come with AWD as standard to make use of all the extra grunt. The result would, however, be a formidable rival to an E36 M3 or C36 AMG of the same era. And while you’re at it, you might want to create a period Super Touring race car based on the Odiel, if you can.
