Direct-Sport is a engine technology invented and developed by Robu Automotive Co.
Direct-Sport is used in Robu’s Turbo-4 and Turbo-4X engine families.
History
In 2008, Robu made their first direct injection engine, the Robu 2.0L HypoValve engine. This engine was used in the 2009-2013 Robu Palace. In 2010, Robu made a HypoValve engine with a turbocharger. This engine was known as the HypoTurbo, as it incorporated direct injection with a turbocharger. In 2012, Robu added VVT to the design, and renamed it Direct-Sport. Some variants use VVL to help spool up the turbo at a lower RPM.
The Turbo-4 engine family started production in 2012. In 2018, a larger engine family was created, called Turbo-4X. Some variants use VVL to help spool up the turbo at a lower RPM. A naturally aspirated form of the 2.4L Turbo-4X engine is used in the 4th generation Robu Jewel S, and is mated to a 6-Speed manual.
Discontinuation
In 2019, Robu officially announced that it would stop production of the Turbo-4 & Turbo-4X engine families by 2025. This was to make room for a smaller, more advanced engine family known as the Turboline. An indirect successor of the Turbo-4X is the Turboactive.
