Roll cage as safety

like example
standard 90’s
advanced 90’s
roll cage (no mass production)

Name me a few (closed) mass produced cars with factory rollcages.

Porsche GT3 RS 4.0, and other factory trackday cars.

Apparently, some redditors attempted to come up with a list too:

While I like the idea from the point of view of somebody who creates a lot of extreme track day stuff, I’m not certain that this isn’t already covered by the Advanced safety option (and a little imagination). That said I never quite knew what Advanced Safety in the noughties really meant. It’s not like roll cages were even used in production cars before this century, as far as I know.

Also, OP wants it to be a separate option in the safety menu. That would mean the only safety feature in your entire car would be a roll cage.

Well I think the gt3 rs bypasses several airbags with the use of the roll cage and a 5 point harnesses.

and the roll cage should give a bonus to sportiness as it stiffens the chasis

Could just have a “performance safety” or something that’s lighter than advanced safety, but maybe not quite a good, and also gives a bit of a boost to the sportiness because a roll cage would be considered as part of the package? And give a fairly big boost to production units because of the roll cage assembly.

Stick with the current nameing scheme, “sport safety”

Ok, now that makes more sense, would match the stripped down sport interior as well. Lighter, stiffer but maybe not QUITE as safe as Advanced but waaaaaaaaay lighter.

Yeah, and maybe have sport safety decrease practicality and comfort because of the reinforcing bars jutting into the passenger space and the five point harness making it hard to move. Maybe kill utility too because of the reinforced fuel cell sitting in your storage space

Also I think most supercars have what would be considered a rollcage hidden with fabric and awkward storage compartments, so it would be fitting for the game

Once we have spaceframe chassis in the game this (rollcage safety) would make sense as an option for cars that use that chassis type.

I often thought that would be a good means of weight reduction in a car. Build the entire structure around a roll cage. Body panels themselves would be relatively flimsy(not too flimsy, I wouldn’t want it to blow apart from the wind but you get my idea), but the safety would lie in the roll cage chassis. Something to provide a rugged, safe design with reduced material cost and weight.

That’s pretty much exactly what a spaceframe chassis is, a car made entirely of rollcage
