I was a bit shocked it’s not built in Japan too. But I suppose it’s getting too expensive to produce in Japan so they have to cut costs with overseas production.

Anyway, I’m impressed by the bold statements from Saminda. But I hope in the rush to get this into production by 2017 they don’t cause any further quality issues.

Yes , we are still a Japanese company. There are few things we need to look at in a certain way , here are few reason why the C2KR is bulit in UK instead of Japan like the predecessor.

  1. Saminda is commited to buliding cars in which country they sold , however it will be imported to Japan.

  2. It’s logical to bulit in UK along with the Type-R

  3. We have positive experience in buliding high performance car in UK , example : Type-R

  4. Yen causes headache for us.

There are still plenty of reason , but here is some of it

#Saminda introduced CVT transmission

Saminda announced yesterday that they have invested $85 million at its U.S Kentucky engine plant to build advanced pulley components for the automakers new CVT transmissions. These CVT transmissions will first debut in the 2016 Saminda C3 and will also eventually find their way into CR3 and C5 , Paired with the i-VIC direct injection engine, the new CVT will help Saminda cars claim 10 percent better fuel economy compared to the current six-speed transmission.

CVTs are not in the game yet, so why has your company decided to adopt them?

Edit: @Fayeding_Spray has a point, but since modern CVTs can easily mimic a conventional automatic transmission it makes sense for Saminda-Auxuras to introduce a CVT to its lineup. It’s another nail in the coffin for performance-oriented cars from them, though…

He also uses Hybrid, and that doesn’t exist either, so your point?

Exists the Honda CR-z, the only hybrid from the market with manual gearbox

Hate on CVTs all you want, but the fact of the matter is that having infinetely variable gear ratios is technically a massive advantage over “conventional” gearboxes.

  1. technically is not practically. that’s why people still likes geared transmissions
  2. while the CVT itself may become better, the torque converter or such are still not as good as classic styled clutch. in some ways at least

Sells of manual transmissions are going down, so it’s not like most people prefer manuals over any type of automatic.

Other than the powerloss and heat problems, the torque converter has the hability to multiply torque, something that a clutch can’t do, and requires less maintenance. And newer ZF models change gears quite fast, and are used in a lot of sport models. IMO a lot of people prefer manuals only for nostalgia, as there are not real advantages (for common people using their car in normal ways). I personally prefer to play with the clutch and the stick, but I know lots of people that just want to drive and not to worry about changing gears.

as for torque converter… okay, i’m not that knowledgeable about that

Whoops, I read geared as manuals :stuck_out_tongue: my bad.

Former CVTs supposedly felt unnatural to drive, but it is my understanding that manufacturers had traded efficiency to give a more natural feel.
And I agree with koolkei, geared are more practical than CVTs, as those can’t withstand heavy loads or big torque.

yet. there’s no automatics on motorbikes. either sequential manual (on rarer and newer bikes, DCT), or just CVT…
