SBR - The Shitbox Racing Challenge (closed)

The Shitbox Racing Challenge

One of my first Challenges, Which will be judged by me and @quiz

Summary: A race variant of a “cheap” vehicle from the 90s (1990-1999)

(Realistically) the car should look like a vehicle that was actually deisgned in the 90s, can be a purely fictional car of yours or just a bland copy

The rules

Any engine is accepted (less a V16 for obvious reasons)

Race variant should atleast be a sligthy tuned version of the road car

Needs to have a livery, Even if its like 2 stripes

No quality spam

Negative quality is allowed

Any body is accepted but they cannot be from 2000 and above though)

No drivetrain swaps (specially AWD)

Max horsepower for the engine is 300 (i dont have a calculator to do that on BHP)

Fuel: Any

Race car budget will be around $25,000

Any type of turbo tune is allowed

Should be a little like SCCA Race Cars (Sports Car Club of America)

Maximum price of the road vehicle is $15,000.

Submission Rules

Atleast one picture of the road version of ur Race Car

You need send the .car file into either me (@1989VauxhallFrontera ) or @quiz

Submissions will end in 2024-08-31T03:00:00Z

The submissions might take a while to be judged because its just two idiots that have no idea what they are doing

Car model and family name should be SBR - yournamehere

BIGGEST PRIORITIES TO GET POINTS

The own design itself, from the main road version

The racing livery of the vehicle, variety might come into it

If the road version ACTUALLY looks road legal

THE SMALL PRIORITIES TO GET POINTS

How cool it looks (might just go into our opinions but this wont count alot)

Inspirations: (so you have a idea what ur doing)
Geo Storm Race Car (1991)
Mazda MX-5 Track Car (1990)
Mazda Familia Race car (1995)
Honda Accord Race Car (1998)

The base road car should cost under $15k-$20k AMU - in keeping with the low-cost nature of this challenge.

Thats a good idea, i should probally put that into the rules.

500 hp seems very intense for what should be a lightly modified road car

How will you judge the cars is it based on beam ng time or just engineering?

Also I think the price cap is way too high, 25,000k is premium territory, not econoboxes which should be less than half the price

  1. I did put the max of 500 because i thought people would do V8s but yea i just noticed its quite weird so im gonna make it around 300-350

  2. We will judge on engineering, Style and the only thing id look on beamNG time is to see if the car actually does a lap time, not taking points if its slow though.

  3. Will make it around 15k-20k, only reason why it was quite high is because i wanted cars with different categories, because i knew that it was only gonna be hatchbacks, but i was aiming for sedans, coupes or maybe even SUVs.

what counts as quality spam

-10 /15 generally. Or like - swing on stuff that doesnt make a big impact on stats so you can put big sliders into the stat boosters.

are we allowed different chassis or engine materials between the Road and the Race version? thanks

yes

like making every damn part of your vehicle +15

That should be quite impossible anyway given the 15k price limit.

Anyone know how to make a good livery?

So is there a need to make and submit a road car or just take a picture of the race one with the “race” stuff removed

i would prefer you do the road car first and then do the race stuff

15k price is for the ROAD version, race version might have no limit or budget i dunno.

I would recommend a budget of some kind. Say $20,000 for the race one

20/25k i would say other wise we’ll have mk1 golfs turning into audi quattro s1s.

To clarify, that is 300bhp, not 300kW?
