So, Scion is dead. What are your thoughts, Americans?
Hmm.
I guess I care less about the brand than about the cars. And to be honest, it sounds like the coolest Scions were rebadged variants of other Toyotas.
Didn’t they have a whole new lineup ready for production?
Even though Scion as a brand doesn’t make sense… I’m not convinced it’s really happening until official announcement from Toyota.
[edit] and here it is: pressroom.toyota.com/releases/sc … toyota.htm
While it is a dissapointment, I’m not very surprised. Scion has been declining for years, I knew it was done for when Toyota announced that there would be no penalty for dropping the Scion name from their dealerships. Toyota was selling to a half baked market to begin with with the millennials, some aren’t even old enough to drive, let alone purchase NEW vehicles. It feels like a reboot of Saturn for the modern age. Ah well, times change I guess.
Does this make my FR-S a future classic? Be sure to watch Barrett Jackson via hologram in 2046.
All scions will be rebaged as Toyotas so the brand new ia, which was already a rebadged Mazda 2 will now be rerebadged as a Toyota something or other, possibly keeping the lettering system. It’s sad but not unexpected. Toyota never did scion any favors or really gave them any cars to play with. They only had the Xb 1, Xa, IQ, XD, tC, Xb 2, and Fr-s to sell from 2003-2013, and during that time no more that 4 of those were offered at once. Had Toyota given them the yaris sedan with a body kit and maybe a close ratio 5 speed , or replaced the first gen Xb with a rebadged funky styled matrix rather than the bloated mess that was the Xb 2, they might have seen better sales. there was no joy or passion to the running of scion, and in the end they pulled they plug for good reason. I drive a Xb 1 and I love it, its a great car that’s why more fun to drive than it has any right to be, gets decent mileage, amazing interior room, and is actually kinda zippy in city driving. If they had kept making cars like that, light weight fun and funky cars they could have seen some good numbers, or if they admitted that what sold best was the tC and started selling more sporty cars like maybe a corolla/yaris/matrix xrs clone, or brought the blade here sooner, as it is we were only just getting the auris here as the scion I’m and it was not being seen as “fun” or “zippy” at all.
Doesn’t affect me, but it is sad to see a company go, especially one I grew up liking (Midnight Club 3: DUB Edition Remix’s tC, because Cheap)
I don’t care, but at least take the TC, and rebadge and rebody it as the Celica.
From what I can find, TC production is going to end in August.
Also, the FR-S, the iA (Mazda 2) and the iM (Auris) are going to be sold under the Toyota brand, all the rest will die with Scion.
The only thing I loved about Scion was the name of xD and design of tC
Haha, same. I’ve never seen a Scion in my life but I learned about them from MC3. Best budget car.

I’ve seen a Scion. It was called xD
Just another in a series of low-end spinoff brands meant to increase market hype that ended up folding back into their parent companies after a little more than a decade.
Geo.
Saturn.
Scion.
