Season 4 - Round 4 (END - Open for Comments)

Gentlemen, build some engines! The christmas final round of season 4 has just started!
Again, there are two themes for you:

1993 The Train Follower
Your bike company has been receiving complains for last year that all some people had to do was follow the damn train and your bike made it impossible. This year, you’re making a new dirtbike and are going to fix that error. Make sure the engine is small enough to fit and is able to keep up with any rail vehicles, even if some fatass guy weighing as much as the bike itself is the passenger.

2014 LMP2 Le Mans 24H

A Small racing team asked you to create a new engine in order to participate at the famous " 24 heures du Mans" for atlest 6 Seasons.
The rules let you 2 options : a 5000 cm² NA engine with 6 or 8 cylinders, or a 3200 cm² 6cyl turbocharged engine. You are not allowed to put 5 valves per cylinder. VVL is also prohibited.
In the full Race event, you are expected to run about 550 laps. Each lap is 13.6 km long. Reliability, Economy and weight are the keys. And remember, it’s a small team, they don’t have a lot of money.

 • Max 3.2L Turbo Engines with upto 6 Cylinders
 • Max 5L NA Engine with upto 8 Cylinders
 • No VVL
 • 4 valves per cylinder max

For those new to the challenge and those who forgot:

This is the new spreadsheet for the last round.

Send the engine files via PM to me in this season! Please name the files in this structure: Theme-Name, for example “2014 Lemans - Pyrlix” That makes stuff easier for me.

Have fun and may the votes be with you!

Greets!

Hi, i’ll be entering this one (first time) and as I can’t really understand the efficiency line, I was wondering if anyone could tell me a good efficiency to go for for the le mans one - or is that classed as cheating?

If so (and i’d prefer this way), could someone just explain what the efficiency line means in real terms so that I can work out if my engine is efficient or not?

I don’t want to be sitting there happy with my 10/20/30% engine knowing that that means I can only do 12 laps before refuelling, or on the other hand do 200!

in the challenge it gives the course length and expected number of laps. you can use this to back calculate the number of pitstops. take a look at the spreadsheet.

Oh, I get that - if the figure was in ‘mpg’ or ‘l/100km’ i could work it out, but the figure is g/hph or something like that - that means nothing to me :frowning: So I guess i’m asking if someone can translate that unit

it means that for every kW or HP the engine produces at full throttle it uses X amount of fuel. the density of gasoline is between 720 and 760 grams for every litre depending on the quality.

*Killrob edit: kWh or hph, it is an inverse of engine efficiency.

Voting beginss now!
Please dont forget to send in your engines

Eveybody vote yet?

I am currently not at home - and because there were holidays - the voting is extended to Monday/Tuesday.

sounds good

Votes are what we need! With so few votes its not so much fun in the end, so vote vote vote! Due to all the holidays: Saturday I will count all votes.

The small team “Automation Racing” decided which engines they want to use in th 24h Le Mans Race - and they are very confident, that they’ll make it.

Obligatory speech?! gasp

Ehm… tap on the microphone
What can I sa-- can you hear? oh, ok good… where i was, yes.
What can I say. Without my first win in the 2009 indian engine I think i wouldn’t put all that effort on the following rounds, so thank you everybody for the vote on my first engine of the season. And a special thanks to Der Bayer to be so competitive, he really help me to don’t stop and looking for that little more to make my engines much more refined.
It was a pity that on the 3rd round we both made mistakes on the spreadsheet.
That’s it. I’ve survived! Thank you all and goodb-- loud bang
fall on the ground dead with a bullet in the head

Sorry! My finger twitched
On a serious note:
And I enjoyed the season too! Some room of improvement for next season I think, but fourth is better than lets say, fifth

For the fifth i have a different idea - thats why there will be a quite long pause now. With the finished car designer you have a more different approaches and very flexible themes.

So it’s no longer Themed Engine Challenge, but Themed Car Challenge!? The future is approching!

Sure! Its just a matter of time till we get stuff like Economy, Sport and Comfort Rating and others

Drat! Can’t believe this is the first I’ve seen of this forum section, lol. Congratz to the winners, can’t wait for the next season to start!
