[SIDE QUEST] The Big Balls Run ('84 Edition) AUTOBEAM

As long as I can still do something front-engine, I’ll have fun with it. I’ve got a few more RoadBurners ideas to toss around.

I’ll give exceptions for stupid things if they need them, HyperBoloid’s V16 thing was 86k for SB, im willing to do it.

Oh, good. Because I might need to V16 my next car.

A bit of discussion has been going on, what about a moonshining challenge?

I could enjoy that. Could also be fun to do a wings-unlimited Pikes Peak hill climb.

'Shine runners? In what era? If it’s 40’s, we’re all going to have shit cars with too much power and no grip, it’ll be understeer with snap oversteer hell, but we could all have fun. If it’s mid 60’s, that could be hilarious (muscle cars that turn, anyone?) and could be fun. If it’s semi-modern-day, that could also be fun (seriously, you have no idea how much 'shine your average crossover could haul and look normal while doing it. No, I don’t know that from experience, but I do have an idea from hauling 1/4 ton of concrete tiles home in a Hyundai Elantra hatchback).

Might be a little hard for me to give a 40’s car the RoadBurners treatment, though. (Edit - Scratch that, I might have a few ideas. Are there any good 40’s American bodies? Because I might test an idea or two.)

If it’s a moonshine challenge, I’m voting for '60’s era cars, only because they might be more drivable than a '40’s car (and the styling is much more within my wheelhouse).

Currently its sitting at like mid 50s, so we at least have slightly better drum brakes and radial tires.

Hmm… 50’s, you say?

I might actually have a loose idea for that.

That may be a little extreme, but we’ll have to see. Keep in mind that if you did that you would probably be arrested in 2 seconds.

I’d use it as inspiration, not necessarily built as it is.

After all, that is a bit much. But I was thinking about going V16 so I could lump two nice big chunks of V8 cast iron under the hood, go a little wild with the styling, create something generally interesting out of an otherwise “normal” family car.

Like Hazzard County style?

Oh also, shine runners were running mostly on dirt roads. Therefore the skinny 40’s tires, as long as we’re talking all terrain+ type, should have sufficient traction.

Hazzard County style works for me, though in my head i was thinking more early NASCAR drivers style. A lot of those guys learned about driving and hot rodding cars from running their family’s moonshine. Either way works for me, lol you could even find a track that utilizes a jump at the end.

What year range does that place your idea at? The Hazzard County puts us around 79-85 assuming we stick with the show. The cars are older of course, the Gen Lee was a 1969.

Having driven the hard offroad course in Bottom Drives, I can say a jump as part of a Beam race is a very bad idea since automation-export suspensions are very fragile. But if the jump were at the finish line, so that the car flew off after reaching the end, that would be an awesome way to end the lap! (maybe some explosives from a mod could be put at the end as well :D )

I was thinking cars from '65 to '69 maybe? Find a way to get disc brakes up front at least lol. You could also put tires of different sizes under your car. As for the jump… yeah, I wouldn’t put one in the middle of the race. Everyone’s wheels would fly off. It would be cool to have to jump through the finish line, but otherwise it just wouldn’t work.
