In 1939, Willian Delchiori, an Italian imigrant in Sweeden with swedish parents founded an company especially designed to make car engines, Willian Motorer (Willian Engines, in English). Not having the expected success, in 18 years he managed to get a lot of experience in the area, and founded Styrka Automobiles Inc. The name, wich means power and speed, made sense with their first car:
Styrka Vanish (1963)
The Vanish was powered by an 7906 cc DOHC Twin Carburettor 40V V8 Engine, generating 499hp, wich combined with the car design, was able to make 319 Km/h (198 MPH), being classified as the fastest car in the world as it’s time. Thought, it had an horrible acceleration: 7.5 Seconds to go from 0-100Km/h (0-62MPH). Even to it’s time, it was very slow.
It made lot of success, but didn’t sold the expected. The thing that really atracted buyers was it’s luxury. Hand made true lether seats, Premium Quality AM Radio, Phonograph and power steering.
Styrka Topefart (1965)
Being created to be the “middle one” in the family, the Topefart was powered by an 10857cc SOHC Carburettor 32V V8 Engine, generating 432 hp. 291Km/h (180MPH) Top Speed, 7.7 seconds to go from 0-100Km/h (0-62 MPH), it made much more success, due to its value.
It was’nt as luxurious as the Vanish, thought it wasn’t uncomfortable. The money raised by it’s sellings were enough to keep the company running.
Styrka Vanish GTR (1969)
In 1969, Styrka lauched the powerful and luxurious Styrka Vanish GTR. Powered by an mighty 10857 cc DOHC MFI 40V V8, generating 1182hp, giving this car the top speed of 375 Km/h (233MPH), going from 0-100 Km/h (0-62MPH) in 8.7 seconds.
When the Vanish family started being produced, many people doubted about it’s real top speed. So, on the launch of this car, Styrka called Craig Breedlove to Bonneville Salt Flats, Utah - USA to show how fast it could go. But, on it’s own words: “No. This 2-ton luxury bath wont get more then 250Km/h.” Tought, he accepted the challenge. Finally, on 17th May, 1969, on a Saturday, Willian Delchiori and his enginieers were on the Bonneville Salt Flats, together with a big crowd. While entering the car, Craig looked to the Vanish GTR engineers, really doubting about this cars speed.
Then it started. While accelerating, the big crowd keeped looking to him until the car faded on the desert distance, while everyone was impressed with all the power. At this moment, Craig reached 300Km/h. He said: “It was like sitting on your bed while inside a jet. The car just keeped accelerating, while I could see the pointer coming to 360Km/h. It was so impressive, I couldn’t believe it!”.
On the other side of the desert, Willian and some workers from the Styrka Factory praised his arrival by clapping, while Delchiori, with simile on the face said: “Never doubt of Styrka Automobiles.”
