When the the campaign mode comes out are we going to have the option to take surplus engines and change them to a different variant? Currently I like to design a “short block” then modify the fueling and cam profiles. I would like to think that if there as a surplus of one engine that a company would be able to change parts of what they had to meet the needs of other models. Ultimately this won’t be a big deal if our companies can sell our surpluses as crate engines.
That would be the export feature. Simply ask another player to send you an engine of your specification.
I think he’s talking about being able to repurpose surplus engines in his game so that he doesn’t have built-up stock. Therefore, neither importing an engine he sources from the community nor designing a new one in-game helps his situation.
I don’t know the perfect answer and you’ll have to wait on the Developers for that, but I’m pretty sure you cannot reengineer an engine that has already been built. Selling crate motors would be cool, but the engines have no desirability separate from the cars right now, so I don’t think it would work.
The simplest solution would be to retool an engine factory to produce your latest and greatest motors while continuing a vehicle run long enough to deplete your stock of old engines. After that supply is taken care of, you can change the engine choice in your car and start building new cars with new engines.
KLinardo understood what I was getting at.
You won’t be able to change one engine variant into another, no.
