Technical Tuner Seeking Body Design Advice

Skilled in chassis and engine tuning, I’ ve built cars based on real data with strong track performance. However, I struggle with aesthetic design——–coordinating lines, proportions, and details into a cohesive, visually compelling whole.

I want to learn how to design a visual language that matches a car’ s performance, making the form express its mechanical intent. Could you share core design principles, proportion techniques, or practical resources for beginners? Any advice on creating cohesive, beautiful shapes would be greatly appreciated.

  3. To expand on the above - pick a vibe you like, find MULTIPLE real models in that vibe, find several photos of each of them and look at those photos while designing. Why multiple? To not end up with a replica.
  4. Assess each fixture you add - does it fit the chosen vibe? Does it look right for the era? Does it fit the style of other fixtures you’ve already placed? (If most of the car has angular, “techy” styling, then using some amorphous blob will look weird).
  5. Look at your car from various angles while designing.
  6. Repeating shapes are a plus - they don’t have to repeat exactly (maybe even shouldn’t), but if you have triangular DRLs for example, then a triangular vent or inner elements of the taillights might fit that well.
  7. There are several design guides on the forum, some design challenges - look them up, they can be helpful.
