Kinda ironic that I got 27th considering my username
Maybe I shouldn’t’ve used a solid rear axle with AWD and air suspension…
Wooo! Pretty happy with 3rd and congrats to @Elouda!
Not bad at all considering this is the 2nd(?) or 3rd challenge i’ve ever done.
And I’ve definitely learned way more engineering in the span of submitting and now.
Air suspension makes no sense on a Kei car, nor does a solid rear axle on a pure sports car from the late '90s, Kei or not (and I’m not lumping contemporary pony cars or utes in with the sports car set this time around). Some Kei cars did have AWD, though, but they were in the minority - so next time you choose to enter a challenge, be sure to do some research on real-life period-correct equivalents along with their design and engineering, to use as benchmarks for your entry.
I tested various different suspension setups and, and went for the soild axle with air suspension as it was the most fun to drive in beam.ng. Also pretty much all the AWD kei cars had soild rear axles, even the Suzuki Alto Works, so the air suspension is really only the part that doesn’t make sense for a kei car.
Looking at your stats The main problem of yours is Drivability, comfort and reliability
Drivability:
Main stuff that affect drivability are:
Suspension type
Suspension setup
Drive type
Gearbox type
Tires compound
Brakes setup
Power steering
Traction aids
So how to improve it
add traction aids. just adding ABS can give you up to 5 points in drivability and traction control can give another 2 of these.
consider switching your suspension type. while solid rear axle may give your car best utility you are losing at drivability sportiness and comfort which were important in this competition
Make sure that your brakes are setup the correct way brake fade or using too much force can lower your drivability and sportiness.
You can also try to tweak your suspension
using this graph:
the more to the right the graph is the more stiffer suspension gets
Springs type different springs type may be better suited for sport car
Reliability:
Having low reliability may be a result of many different things there are some of them
Bad Turbo setup, too small turbo or too much boost will lower engine reliability
Lack of quality in Engine architecture, Fuel System, Exhaust, Trim Body or drivetrain, adding quality in those segments will improve your reliability quite a lot
Too much torque at gearbox gearboxes have torque limits while hovering at gearbox type you can see how much a gearbox can take
Engine stress kind of obvious one stressing your engine lowers your reliability
Comfort:
Having low comfort also may be result of many different things some of them are
Having too stiff suspension may result in lowering your comfort (use graph above)
Reconsider your seating having 2 rows of seatings in such a small car will lower the comfort
Check interior settings as they are very important for prestige and comfort try few and see what works the best for your budget
Also a small disclaimer what works for stats in automation doesn’t necessary translate into good driving car in beamng you should rather focus on automation unless the challenge includes some beamng
I hope that those information will be useful for you if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask for help
