The Car Shopping Round (Round 64): Tears in Heaven

we are not lawsuit happy

(I know we are getting a little [a lot] off topic here, so let me try to sum this up.)

Ok, well imagine that you were named in a lawsuit for an injury resulting from the use of your car. If you pay me a large fee up front, I will defend any lawsuits that are involving your car for little to no extra costs per lawsuit. Otherwise, you would have to pay me as your lawyer per hour of work done.

ladies and gentlemen, the pmower
ladder chassis, most basic suspension ever
rear engines, rwd

it looks like a sports car, but the engine SAYS HELL NO!!!

50 reliability, which means if the engine’s lifespan is 100KM, you can go 50 KM without repairs
its cheaper to buy a new engine than to service it
42 HP per liter

even if the car is uncomforable, no radio, unsafe, unsporty,
its atleast kinda practical, there’s a spear tire in the rear above the engine and a toolkit too, in the front is the fuel tank and some place for stuff

if its not sporty, its atleast driveable
if its not safe, its lightweight, weight reduction > your life
its very reliable,
since its lightweight it also uses less fuel too

looks like a type 3 coupe, me like.

The seventh amendment of the US Constitution lists provisions involving civil cases with damages exceeding the sum of twenty dollars. The problem is this was never adjusted for inflation. Twenty dollars was a lot more money in 1791 than it is today.

That only provides that a suit will be heard by a jury where the amount in controversy is in excess of $20. While that doesn’t do us any favors, increasing the threshold for a jury trial will not necessarily equal a decrease in lawsuit filings. Bench trials will not dissuade plaintiff attorneys from filing civil complaints with the court. Especially not when considering the fact that most civil suits are dismissed or settled before trial.

Tips hat to acknowledge Constitutional knowledge

The NMC Oryx ATX is the specialty off-road version of the Oryx coupe. Its simple mechanicals are built to last, and its alloy panels save weight while resisting rust better than steel-bodied competitors. The car shown here carries all optional off-road accessories, which can be color-coded or chrome-plated. While it has good off-road capabilities, its unibody frame ensures it won’t be out of place on pavement. Options include a basic AM radio and high-flow intake and exhaust; though none of these are specified on the car shown here, you may order them if you want additional comfort or performance, respectively. Finally, with low running costs and an even lower purchase price, it’s easy on the wallet, even in the long term.

The Oryx is also available as a standard steel-bodied road car with the option of larger, more powerful engines and with all-independent suspension at each corner as standard. Get your order in now - no matter what you want it to be, you’ll have loads of fun in an Oryx!

You’re right about your assumptions. I didn’t think about the skidtray thing but I will implement that. Thanks a lot for the input! There will be a “track offroad” stat internally in the simulation, yes.

I don’t understand what you mean. Please be more clear.

Environmental resistance can be neglected.

sorry, my britishness is a little much  i meant how important is straight line performance

Acceleration is quite important, top speed not so much.

TUNING TIME!!!

some minor revisions to the design have occurred, also i’ve gotten some performance out of it, though it’s still not fast.

Not sure if offroad tires are worth it. We will be racing on sand at most and they hurt on a lot places. Hmmm…decisions, decisions…

@Der_Bayer Is in-game consuption important? I’m asking in relation to gearing, not running super rich. Basically is it possibly beneficial to have overdrive and supposedly save 1l/100km or will you take in account that buggies don’t usually do long runs so shorter gearing is the key?
EDIT: Oh and will you be (by any chance) filling super 98?
EDIT2: buggy for 4 or are you planning to never take friends with you (since it might get crowded in available convertible bodies)?

I find that unlikely, it’s supposed to be an ultra budget go wherever fun machine. Though if there were suitable market penalties I see no reason why this shouldn’t be allowed…

oh well, after reading the above
revisions revisions…

It doesn’t specify fuel type but running costs is so I don’t see how 98 super would be a problem unless it was far more expensive to run the car (mine runs on 98 super)
And with the offroad skidtray effecting rules but not specified and myself having sent my non-revisable entry in already , wouldn’t the effect of total offroad include the offroad skidtray so a further rule making it more effective again seems redundant to me. Or have I made the wrong assumption?

super 98 would add running cost about $300 for me, i dont think with this extra little power and torque it wont worth so much. i can increase the valve timing but for offroader i rather get extra torque

well to be fair, the details wasn’t really specified until yesterday, after it was asked then answered.

either way, losing 4x4 would make me lose some cost and weight anyway.

I used an off-road skid tray and tires (along with a 4x4 drivetrain) for better off-road capabilities, and chose regular fuel to decrease running costs - the only benefit to using super is a few more horsepower, particularly since in 1967 engine technology was very primitive compared to today. Moreover, a car that once required regular leaded fuel would now only require 95 RON premium unleaded fuel today. And although environmental resistance is not a concern, I used alloy panels anyway, on the basis that mass production was not required (and in 1967, is actually impossible with that particular panel material), as well as to save weight, avoid rust, and increase prestige. Finally, I went for a two-barrel carb, standard intake, and short cast headers since the benefits of anything more complex were negated by their extra cost, and I made the cam profile slightly more aggressive, but not to the point of sending fuel consumption through the roof.

i’ve been on off road tires so far and haven’t really lost a lot of performance on road
