The Car Shopping Round (Round 64): Tears in Heaven

Hmmm, my prediction is gonna be @Phale in 1st with insane stats and @rcracer11m on looks
Oh yeah and…
HYPEHYPEHYPEHYPEHYPEHYPEHYPEHYPE!!!

that’s by pure stats. which is also scary…

but will stats to price matter, this is the part that i’m hoping it does matter a bit

Having to wait for a few weeks to see the final results made me appreciate exactly how much effort goes into reviewing each car, and how the finishing order was determined. I was in fact prepared to accept such a long wait when it leads to the quality of the reviews going through the roof.

I agree. I think I asked several days back how to make polls on this thread. Did anybody answer my question?

I only partially agree with you here. While I truly appreciate the time and effort that goes into the reviews/results, I think it follows a bells curve of frustrated-to-pleased to time-and-energy. It’s all about finding the balance, and (in my opinion) have passed that point. No disrespect meant to anyone, just thinking with a small adjustment back we’ll be at the sweet spot

Sweet. Let’s try it here then. I’m going to go through each of the ideas presented.

#What should we do with the CSR?

  • Let it run as it is and lengthen each round to 2 weeks (one week for submission, one week for reviews). The improved innovation and quality of reviewing is worth the extra wait. Other recurring competitions should be established.
  • Force it to run back to schedule and encourage everybody to spend less time on writing reviews, and rewrite the rules to enable quicker, participant-driven turnover
  • Compromise between the two by allowing the round to run a week and allow 3 days for the reviews to be written.
  • Run two sets of alternating rounds, with each cycle being two weeks long, with strict rules on the timing of submissions and review writing

Did I miss anything?

I think not. I’ll vote for perfect world where compromises work

On conversation above… I do appreciate the time that is spent for quality reviews and such but if I wait for them for a week or more I tend to forget what was the point, what and especially why did I submit the car I did.

EDIT: If by any chance we have a new time limit for reviews, than it really should apply to everyone. If you have RL suff, we all understand but it does not mean there won’t be a winner-poll after 3 days.

Having partially hosted a round…that may have contributed to the growing delay in review posting (of which I can only apologise). I feel the staggered posting of reviews helps in my experience on both sides of this helps offset the longer wait times while also preserving the reviews quality and in fact helps build hype :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ll just add a small suggestion to the points made about the fact people may be keeping their challenge ideas to themselves. I personally would be more inclined to create my own challenges if some of the highly skilled members gave some templates or advice on how they calculate things for their very awesome events. (I know about the sticky and it’s a great starting point but I mean more regarding like all those fancy spreadsheets and such…maybe a template or something would be handy)

Because on that part, I’d either fall simply to ingame stats which favour those older and higher skilled members or else purely subjective views on taste which would leave things being a bit too simplistic. I was very glad to have @koolkei’s help during our round.

@strop that was a really short poll

this last part was a bit uneccessary but nice :stuck_out_tongue:
vice versa, i just completely (well, almost) disregard the aesthetics part of my reviews, thx to @rk38

but to be fair, our ‘partial’ reviews is enough for a full review from each of us, really.

btw… every time you say nice to me, i do the same to you… we’re starting a canadian circle here.

huh? It’s not over?

At least I certainly haven’t closed it.

well if i was the roundmaster this CSR21 would last only 5 days +2 for review

yeah. i dun derped. i forgot what the poll here looks like :stuck_out_tongue:sorry

ok looks like we have a runaway winner, hence I’ve closed the poll. I’m aware probably four or more regulars didn’t get a chance to vote but given the significant margin, the result’s clear. I’ll be updating the rules shortly to reflect the new changes. They’ll go something like:

  • Roundmaster can specify a round length of up to 7 days (and not more)
  • Roundmaster has up to 72 hours to submit their reviews
  • If they are unable to submit their reviews by 72 hours, they must at least determine a top three list (posting reviews can happen elsewhere)
  • If this is not possible, the thread will turn to a user poll lasting 24 hours. What I don’t know is whose duty it is to write the post. I suspect it’ll be mine, unless I say I can’t do it and ask somebody else to do it lol.
  • The results of the user poll decide the next roundmaster and runners up.

How’s that look?

That sounds good for keeping things timely and fair.

I agree with these changes. It serves as an incentive to have the reviews ready before they are published, e.g. by reviewing a car as soon as you receive it - a measure I would most likely resort to if I found myself in the unlikely situation of hosting a CSR round. In any case, we will no longer have to wait an eternity for the results to be revealed.

Sounds great to me. Keeps it snappy while still giving people enough room to be creative.

Good, then that’s settled. I only had to change the original rules slightly, I’ve just been too lax on the deadlines lol.

Now, where might our good friend @Kubboz be?

Most likely completing the reviews for each entrant and calculating the final results. Given that around two dozen users submitted entries for this round, it would not have been an easy feat by any stretch of the imagination.

Ok this is gonna make me sound like a dick but here goes. Where do we stand with this round? Even just a teaser? I didnt enter and i am really missing the challenge so the wait is getting abit long dont yall think?

i agree but this is not long as the african challenge, but its been 5 days since @Kubboz appear in this thread to giving confirmation
