Now for something different… Car Shopping Round 23: We’re going to need a better boat!!!
In 2012 the Toyota 86 was launched to a lot of fanfare… and internet hate. Sure it was a cheap, RWD sports car with a proper manual and was set up to be modded and drifted to within an inch of its life, but it wasn’t turbo, it was too slow and some even called it ugly!
Your mission, should you bother to accept it, is to build a better 86; better the RL stats of the original and silence the internet trolls forever!!!
The requirements:
Wheelbase of 2.5 to 2.7m
98RON fuel
Over or equal to 147Kw/ 197hp
Top speed over 220Km/h
4+ Seats (Standard Interior min.)
Achieve at least 0-100 in 7.6 sec and use 7.8L/100Km (or better)
Toyota doesn’t like warranty claims so the engine should have a reliability of 60+ and the overall reliability should be 75+
Car should look contemporary to 2012 so design is mildly important.
Reliability will be used to separate tied entrants and under-cooled entrants will have their cooling set to minimum required.
No neg sliders; Toyota don’t do flimsy or poorly designed!
EDIT: Missed the budget, sorry, and you’re looking to spend no more than 22k (+0)
EDIT 2: Entries will close when I place a closure notice in this thread, 22nd October, 2016!!!
Is 98RON actually required, rather than being the highest grade of fuel we can use? Also, is there an upper limit on price, and if so, how much will the markup be?
Edit: since no particular drivetrain configuration is preferred, or even required (as yet), I expect this to be something of a free-for-all, especially due to the lack of restrictions on the number of doors. In short, we have to beat the 86 and BRZ at their own game.
As I started reading it I was thinking that the car I had started designing for the paris motor show would be really good for that and then it went downhill. think it might be shorter than 2.5m, i definitely didn’t use 98 fuel, im not sure if i can make 50 more horsepower just by re-optimizing the fuel octane and i dont know if 4 seats is even an option for the body i used.
EDIT: I just checked and the only part it doesnt comply with is the wheelbase, although making 197hp from this engine results in quite a bit of turbo lag.
