The Hunt For A Star Car! [FINISHED]

#REVIEWS - SET 2

@Der_Bayer – BAM Moenis

Sex. Actual. Fucking. Sex. I think this may be the most beautiful car I’ve seen in a while. Grand Tourer is the outlook. But, oh my I can’t get over the looks. Nothing Like I’ve seen before. Where elegance flows from front to rear, and anger brews in the soul, you can’t help but know she’ll look good on the big screen… She just has to survive the tests.

Inside, the glamour is interrupted by carbon fibre, and minimalism. This interior is a touch of sport on a boat of class, like full face helmet with a fine Italian suit. The buttons have a purpose, there’s a radio, and a CD player, but you have to pay extra for Bluetooth, not that we care here.

Third with a V12. But this isn’t shouty, it’s calm. It’s German. There’s a wonderful smoothness around it all, and it’s all wrapped in a combination of speed and handling. Brakes work at all speeds, and the steering only falls off when you shouldn’t be.

@DeusExMackia – Erin Scarlet X 3.8

Huh, my wife has an Erin, and her one looks nothing like this! The Scarlet (In Blue, not Scarlet. Misleading name) is a start point into Erin’s GT. This one looks like it fits, with minimal flecking of chrome and plastic, it all joins in how all Erin’s really do. I dunno how many Scarlet generations there have been, but god, this has to be the best of them all.

Slip in, and it’s similar to the Moenis in its more sport like style, but this one’s radio has Bluetooth, again, not that it matters. This is minimal, to save weight in a class of cars that generally are quite heavy.

This is another with V8, but this is British. This is great, the crackles, pops, pure British sports car! Handles with precision, until you get above a certain speed, then steering becomes lax, again, not that it matters. Brakes are better than the Moenis’.

@Madrias – Storm Shadow “Movie Car”

I’m going to preface this with this, my dad used to own a Storm Prince Final Run Edition. Bought it off of his dad. He offered it to me, but I insisted it went to my brother. I love Storm. Always have. Always will. The Shadow, oh this is a different beast. Massive, foreboding, very, very Storm. All out madness in a 4 door sedan.

Inside is all leather, all trimmed to hell. Full on Head’s Up Display, didn’t spare any expense now, did they? This is a car you’d take to the golf course, then the road course. Firm, but soft. That’s how I like it.

AluStar 3, and Turbos. That, to all four wheels. This is brutal. Only issue is, the speed is let down by the weight. Our spec list says just over 2.4 ton. Makes for a solid car, but a little sluggish, compared to the others. Now, I’m not saying it’s slow, but compared to the Super cars and GT’s, it’s a barrelling tank. Maybe the Storm Panzer is a better name…

Excellent work - I am not quite sure which of these three cars will be chosen as things stand right now!

Have all the stunt drivers ended up in the hospital before they could finish the reviews?

@TR8R – FOA Scorpion

It looks like an overweight child. An overweight child who was just refused candy. It isn’t cute. Also sits quite high. Well, high for a sports car, anyway. Finished in what only can be described as Firewatch Orange, it makes for a strange looking sports car. FOA (The name must have inspired the latest star wars, or something) have made something that I don’t understand just yet.

Inside is a rugged and light sport interior, seems strange, but otherwise, it’s pretty nice. Super fancy stereo and display, which is odd… but hey, it looks better in here than out there.

We get going, and Zero. ZERO bumps noticed. Going along, there is very little in the way of movement, and in my smartness to dive over some dirt, it sucks it up with ease. So, it seems to be an Off-road sports car… FOA are nuts. Brakes are much better than literally any other car sent so far.

@abg7 – WMD HSC-52

This car looks rushed. Lazy design, even. The proportions are off, and the green hurts my eyes.

Sporty on the inside, where the green can’t hurt. Good entertainment system, too. Bluetooth, and other fancy things expected on a car of this class.

Drive is quite nice, and the oversteer comes nice and late, with enough control to grab it if it’s about to go all wrong. The V8 provides all the push needed to make this thing handle like a proper track car. Shame about the looks.

@one85db – OMG S5 Ravager

Looks are funny, but passable. Maybe pull in the kids, like “Daddy, look at the bored car!” It seems like it’s just done with everyone, and wants to go home, but not at any real speed. Rear is just standard sports car. Bit too generic for a movie, but maybe as a scene car, it could work out.

Inside is much more spec’d than the others, except for the shadow. That was just sent from the factory. Sadly, it’s missing Launch Control, but otherwise it’s rather well rounded inside.

Now, she isn’t the fastest car I’ve driven, but she moves like a fucking snake. Slithering, twisting, and taking the corners like a predator. The V12 seems rather shoehorned in, and I love that. This seems like a good chase style car, if it was through a tight city.

These are the ones I have ATM (Should’ve posted last night)

Expect the rest soon-ish

FINAL BATCH

@thecarlover – Megacorp Rapier Concept

Megacorp? Wasn’t that the name of one of our Villain’s companies in one of my movies? Eh, the Rapier is Cool. Like an old Hot-rod. Such a cool idea for a car, and we get it before it was shown at Detroit. Now, the car is just bleeding old 1930’s and 40’s looks, in a low modern body. So good.

Inside, the interior is a Hand Made setup, with Leather, and all the other luxuries. This is on-par, if not more to the Shadow for interior. Holds me quite well, and should be a great ride, I hope.

Driving is Controlled, simple, and smooth. Easily one of the best cars I’ve ever driven. Acceleration is simple, plant your foot, and a small bit of chirping through 1st, but otherwise smooth. Stops with zero issues.

@Dorifto_Dorito – OAM Chevalier II Concept “Movie”

What sits here is the revival of a Legend. The Chevalier II. Meat. This is a Meaty Machine. The looks are quite nice, in a muscle sort of way. I mean why not. Take this thing to do what she was meant to do, run and look good doing it.

Interior is what I expected. Simple, but complex, like a Modern muscle car. At first glance, you’ll see the normal buttons, but as you look closely, you see all the little bits, like Driver aids, driving modes, and such.

Going is the fun part. All the power to the back end, and no Driver Aids mean lots, and lots of fun. One of the harder to drive cars here, but that’s to my own fault. Brakes… work. I’ll keep it at that. They work.

@findRED19 – RPG Barracuda Retro

Welcome in 1969. To the glory of the Muscle Car Era. Outside is reminiscent of my uncle’s old Barracuda, except his was blue. The chrome is very much of the era. I think the only issue is going to be if we break one…

Inside is all modern. Lightweight, and simple. Things are hidden and shown, and lightness all around, so non-required things have been cut.

Big V8. Oh, such a nice thing. This one likes to spin her wheels. Lots of smoke. Also a load of fun, but she is a bit slow. Sluggish off the line, and not so great of a top speed. Brakes function without an issue. Small bit of fade, but it’s negligible.
@titleguy1 – Rennen Apophis Concept.

Give me a moment. This is… Amazing. Just… So good. All the bits flow together to create elegance. Yet again, another concept. This one arrived a day after its presentation at Detroit. We’re getting lucky here.

Inside is decked. Leather, and other luxury things. Oooh, proper head’s up display, like the Shadow, and other luxury ones. Really liking this car.

The Go is good. V12 and all wheels getting the power. Goes like stink with a little bit of chirping here and there. Does slide every so often, but overall is quite controlled. Brakes are solidly consistent. I like it.

Sorry about the lateness of these reviews, guys. I started back at school, and lazyness, and being un-inspired, and other excuses.

Proper results when they’re done

That’s no problem! These reviews are great to read, better to take time and write them well.

#THE FINAL RESULTS.

Challenge #1:

“We want to damage, to destroy. Don’t forget that, Mick.” - Foxhound, Dawn’s Shadow

Our first challenge would see how strong our subjects are. Our testing involved various impacts of various sizes. The highest three would be very close, and Last place barely scrapped through.

The WMD HSC-52 would come out in 1st place, with the Storm Shadow and Moenis not too far behind.

Challenge #2:

“Who says that speed kills. I say it makes you more alive” - Cario Martins, Live2Die

Our second challenge would see the cars come to the Modern Layout of the Emeraude Raceway. Fastest time takes the win, as expected.

The Mental Pirhana would take the win, with the Ukkonen a whole 3.5 seconds behind, and the Moenis 1 second behind that.

Challenege #3:

“Running in a Straight line is easy, running around a corner is much harder.” - Officer Briggs, Knight After Night

Here, we tested all their straight line capabilities. Every bit was scored, and the lowest total score won.

Here, the Ukkonen took the prize, because brute force. The Pirhana was close behind, barely being beaten, with the Moenis just behind them.

Challenge #4:

“If we can’t out run them, maybe we can tire them out.” - Commander Gates, Operation: Iron

In this test, we gave each car 60L of fuel, and told them to drive until the fuel ran out. Works.

Here, 3 rather quiet cars took wins. The Erin Scarlet, by a long margin, followed by the Megacorp Rapier, and finally the Apophis Concept.

##2/3 of the way through, and here is the current standings!

Currently, the WMD is holding a 4 point margin over the Apophis and the Moenis. And at the back, an entire 9 points behind 12th, the RPG Barracuda, with 49 entire points.

Looks, Round 1.

PUBLIC VOTE

Here, we went to our QA team, and told them to rank their top 3 cars. These were the results.

Only one vote seperated the Assulotto and the Rennen, with the Moenis and Rapier close behind.

Looks, Round 2.

MY VOTE.

Now, I get to choose who’s car looks the best.

Here, I decided to go with the Moenis in 1st, the Rapier 2nd, and the Apophis 3rd. The overall visual quality was amazing, I have to say.

CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!

About as expected. That said, Mark can keep the Shadow that was sent in for testing. He can consider it the insane gift from Luke, to have a one-off custom version of the Shadow, built with the mighty AluStar 3 at its heart, in full luxury trim.

Fourth? It seems I only missed out on a podium because of my car’s lackluster visual design - but that is something WMD will fix if they put the HSC-52 into production (which seems very likely considering how well it did in other respects, especially safety).

And congratulations to @Der_Bayer for a well-deserved win!

Awesome stuff! That was a really neat and well run competition so thanks for hosting @Fayeding_Spray. Congratulations to @Der_Bayer. @titleguy1 and @thecarlover for getting the top positions, can’t how amazing your cars look.

Seems like I only managed to get that high into the standings because of the performance aspects :sweat_smile:

Anyway, a well deserved win for the top 3, they are some seriously great machines. Well done to you guys :grin: and thanks for hosting this challenge :heart:

(Thanks @Fayeding_Spray for a.) hosting the challenge and b.) giving me some small backstory, and congrats to the winners! I can’t believe I forgot to look at this thread :stuck_out_tongue:)

So last Thursday, I was asked by my friend to watch this movie called “Run the Dawn.” Personally, I’m not big on action movies, especially those by M.J. Marcus-Johnson since they’re always unrealistic and almost satirically excessive. However, I noticed all the car-focused chases in the trailers, and so I proceeded to text them back “sure, what time?”

The following Friday on the movie’s premier, I walked into the theater with my friends at around 6:30. There was a lot of anticipation around the movie since Marcus-Johnson is pretty famous as a movie director, but you know that already. We sat down, watched some other movie trailers, and the movie began.

Within the first 5 minutes, I was bored. I mean, could you think of a more basic plot line? Run across America from LA to New York, just because there are some people who want your money? Ugh. However, when I saw the cars come onto the big screen, I was enticed.

Sure, jumping two cars out of a building might not be the most realistic thing in the world, but I can’t ignore the stunning cars themselves. The chases themselves were great and from what I’m told, the companies involved in the production of the film actually supplied full cars for the shots. Knowing the cars, I was pleased to know that the engine sounds were spot-on. The Rennen really did sound like a V12 Rennen I’ve heard in the past, among the other cars in the film.

The main chase between Baric (the protagonist played by Matt Damon) in the Moenis, Sofia (Baric’s lover played by Zoe Saldana) in the Rennen, and the baddies in Petotskey Blackfoot police cars as well as ADV Marquis’ was really quite awesome. The Moenis was expertly drifting in every corner whilst you can really tell that the Rennen was 4WD, albeit with quite a lot of handbrake turning. Seeing the two cars race around the streets of LA was really awesome.

I got bored again after Baric was kidnapped when he was still in the Moenis. Sure, I know that it was on a cargo plane, and yes, there was an epic shootout with Marco (Baric’s right-hand man played by Tom Hardy) and Sofia in the Rapier and the Rennen respectively, but I just thought it was a generic plot line. Blah blah blah, Baric escapes, all three regroup, and they have the happy ending that was expected with such a dull action movie. Car chases? Exceptional. Movie itself? Booooooring.

I rate “Run the Dawn” 4/8, no hate but it’s not great.
So, how’d you guys like the movie?

Not the best movie, but anyone with even a passing interest in cars, especially fast ones, should watch the film anyway.
