The Japanese Power Pact [FINISHED]

Great results!

I knew my car was fast, but had I spent a little bit more time making a even flatter powerband, I might have got it…

Edit: Added the photo

Due to Absudist’s request, here is my car. The real secret was keeping the weight down

[quote=“Absurdist”]Well, there is a hell of a lot you can do within those restrictions. And not everyone really pushes to win it. For me I experimented with a flat power band. I’d be keen to see if my car improves in the next races.

I hope the winners consider sharing their cars, I’d like to see how they did it.

It isn’t great, but in fairness to that request I’ve added my car now.

100% agree. IMO with loose regulations like this it’s more about building the care you envision, and then make it as fast as possible than making the fastest car. Sure everybody enjoys a win, especially those of us who don’t see it happening that often, but it’s not always the ultimate goal.

For instance, I knew from the start I wanted a light weight MR sport car with a NA high revving, highly responsive engine. Of curse, afterwards, I tried making it as fast as I could.

It looks like you missed my car as well Pleb. I know it was pending because you needed the badge, but it has been on the forum since the moment I got it! It even says it has been accepted!

I have no idea what went on, I think I just had a huge brain malfunction :frowning: I will update the missed results when I’m back at my PC later today.

Sorry again for my stupidity! :frowning: it’s a pain in the ass to keep everything proper when I have very little knowledge of spreadsheets.

Me looking over the results

Okay, I have updated the results! Hopefully it’s all okay now.

Well I knew my car would be strong, but that was an amazing result! Finally I win something :sunglasses:

It was a really close fight for the top 5 places though with only a second between them all… It’ll be interesting to see how my car fairs in the coming races, but I have a feel that with its wide powerband it’ll handle anything you can throw at it.

Here is a little more info on my car…

As you can see I tried to get the powerband as wide as possible. It generates 250+hp from around 4600-8000RPM with an almost completely flat power curve from 6000-8000RPM. The Torque curve compliments the powerband nicely as well making up for the lack of power from 2800-4000rpm.

Well i did expect to be last again. My car wasn’t made with a lot of power compared to the other as i modeled the engine after the honda s2000, producing around 223 hp. Good challenge though.

Wow. I was confident that the car I sent in was quite good, but not THAT good. Not bad considering the power curve has one of the sharpest peaks ever! Maybe the low-ish weight helped

This is precisely correct, also, sometimes you can experiment with builds to see if you can aim for a specific placing, rather, than, say, first, and go “maybe I’ll make something for the middle of the field”, whether that’s because you want to hold back and make a replica or because you want to take things step by step etc. It’s also fun to feel out the field and see if you can predict where your entry is going to end up, which can be as informative as trying to see whether you can win. In this case I made a fashion entry for the middle of the field because I’ve already participated in a similar challenge several months ago, though not with these same restrictions.

In this case I would say the flat powerband helped, given there was no restriction on the tyre width or type, meaning they could cope with sudden surges in torque. Given we only have 276hp to play with too, low weight is key as given good tyres, you could expect up to at least 500hp/tonne before running into serious problems with traction (as opposed to, say, my anaemic 240). As to how much this affects the result, I think we will find out on the bumpier tracks like Haruna downhill.

Your car was one of the lightest in the competition!

So… Whens the next race?

Sorry for the big delay with the results, some family stuff is going on so this was pushed back on the priority list.

Expect the results by Friday!

So… it’s almost Saturday…

I’m afraid that I actually forgot to copy the cars and results sheet to my laptop as I’m away from my PC for the weekend, so I can’t do the results until sunday now.

Really sorry about this! :frowning:

Okay guys, after much delay, I can finally bring you the results of race 2!
There was a bit of shifting around in positions, so it’s still all to play for going into the third race!

And here are the standings after the first two races:

yep, same here. but i can’t say i’m proud about it.
