The Motorsport Program Chapter 1: TCR

Year 2027

It’s time for your brand to go into motorsports!

Challenge Lore

In 2025, as AI became more advanced and affordable, major automotive brands laid off most of their senior engineers and designers, replacing them with junior staff supported by AI assistance to reduce costs and increase revenue.

Many of the senior engineers, upset about losing their jobs to machines, decided to create a new automotive brand with the sole objective of surpassing the major manufacturers… and the best way to do that was on the racetrack.

A New Brand arrives

Meet Zephyr:

Zephyr was a low end car manufacturer based in South America, they struggled to emerge from the local market due to reliablity problems and high cost, After the massive lay off of senior engineers in 2025, a Chinese holding bought Zephyr, contracted many of that senior engineers and improve its facilities, with many trade routes alliances, innovations in supply chain and the expertise of the team behind it, Zephyr rapidly became one of the best automotive brands of the world.

Zephyr TC

Meet Zephyr Motorsport:

Zephyr directives and engineers were eager to compete with the brands that understimated them, parallel to their brand success, Zephyr philosophy born directly from motorsports, all the models Zephyr started building was inspired in many motorsport categories all around the globe like the TC, Rally1, GT3 and HY (Yeah, I spoiled the next chapters, great storytelling huh?), with the main goal of enter the same silhouette into racing, this is not only a great marketing move, but reduced many costs in R&D.

Zephyr TCR

In 2027, you became the CEO of the automotive brand you always dreamed as a kid, you rise all the way up in the ranks thanks to your love for cars, but you are also a big motorsport fan.

You saw the rise of Zephyr in the motorsport world, you supported them at first for being the underdog, but as they raced, you also saw the crushing domination Zephyr was doing in every major motorsport series since they arrived

Zephyr’s domination also reached the public market, breaking their sales records every quarter and continuing to grow… directly impacting your company’s revenue.

On the track, you saw customer teams abandoning their cars to switch to Zephyr machines. What saddens you even more is how the world’s major motorsport series are slowly turning into one-make championships dominated by Zephyr.

The board of directors is urgently demanding action, and you’ve come up with the solution to save both yourself and your company… You will launch a Motorsport program

Game Rules
  • This is my first challenge :D, i read all the available FIA documentation on the TCR cars to make it as realistic as possible, but as FIA documents kinda wants everyone to make the same car, i removed some regulations to let people also be creative, and finding the “loophole” in a technical regulation that i found very limitant
  • Stable versions submissions only (My Automation is very slow and i can´t switch between versions as quick as i need, i will try to welcome Al Rilma in a future chapter but is still TBD)
  • You are the manufacturer for a Customer/Factory race team, you must design both a Road car and a Race car from the following ruleset stated bellow
  • Both Cars must be capable for exporting to Beamng, as the main scoring of the challenge will be held by me, driving your cars into 2 time trials (one by car, you can check up the time trials in scoring system table), you´ll send me the .car archive and i will export them to Beamng, practice and race them and register the times, if you dont have beamng dont worry, i will tell you what´s happening with the car if any fixture breaks the car, careful with putting fixtures in tyres or suspension beams, anyhow if you need a reference i will attach the TC and TCR .car archives to you to reference, both cars run smoothly on Beamng, time trials are not the the only way to have points, there will be various bonuses for all designers with automation stats to spice the scoring tables

Submissions
  • In the trim and engine names please fill it with TMPC1_ForumUsername. In the model and engine variant fill it with your brand and model. That will keep things easy for me to save the results

image

  • Car Submission will be open to Oct. 6th (It can be extended to 1 week or 2 if not enough quorum), also an ad for the road car an a dossier for the race car also need to be posted (It can be posted after Oct 6.)
  • In the road car ad you will sell your car to the public, on the race car, you are selling it to a customer team so instead of an ad, a technical brochure of how to drive the car and specs will be more appreciated by the team (And myself as i know there what to expect to practice and do the laps)
  • All submissions laptimes for both cars will be posted on my youtube channel for transparency on the results, you can see both Zephyr laptimes there

Body molding shaped to resemble aero fixtures doesn’t count as functional aero, obviously. Actual aerodynamic fixtures, on the other hand, can be used, but with downforce set to 0 at both axles. I don’t think any kind of undertray would be allowed, either.

You´re correct, no undertray allowed

So I’m a bit confused on this, why would the race car NOT have any aero on it yet must still resemble one with standard race car features? Make it make sense please

Nice question, maybe i didnt explain myself very clear, as none aero i say no Undertray is allowed, as TCR car doesnt have any sophisticated floor underneath it, I will check on the aero Sliders, i think if you put a Lip fixture or spoiler fixture it will automatically enable the sliders, a with 0 angle i wanted to dont give so much downforce to this race cars, as the driving of these cars are more on tyre traction instead of aero, but i´ll check it up, i will correct it today, as i understand is a bit contradictory with the fact that all cars have to had a big wing

The TCR cars in the pictures clearly have aero wings and front splitters.

“0” sliders isn’t the same as the sliders being greyed out as well I don’t think

Also what the no tech pool and no quality too?

I understand, i will rework the aero specs requirements based on the comments, thanks for the feedback. Hope to have the final version for monday with all requirements solved

0 techpool for all cars were made so everyone can have the same costs, Quality sliders can be negative but not above 0, it was decided based that we are in the near future anyway, all the cars will be made in the future, and saying a negative slider is having current day components

maybe set the aero to no positive downforce or underbody for street and then set race to like 300LBS (136KG) total of downforce.

I like the techpool and quality at 0, some of us aren’t very good at adjusting to get full advantage haha

Jummm there is no kg requirement for the wings in the FIA technical docs, i will state a minimum and maximum wing angle value based on the Wing design in the regulations, also for the front splitter, and reviewing again the doc, i will allow a undertray for the aero

With a universal tech pool setting of 0 across the board, should there be trim and/or variant PU/ET limits instead?

There will be none, Techpool is 0 to have everyone play with the same costs, the only restraint for the road car will be the price

I disagree, 0 techpool is essentially your 2020 year. It doesn’t make sense for your challenge to use 0 when default is the same thing? Quality is how well the part is made, as such more quality makes it better but more expensive, it has nothing to do with the year that the part came out. Having more techpool just means it’s cheaper to produce said part because it’s been around for longer.

So, for 2027 you’d want +7 all round (although default +5 is fine) and then quality ontop to differentiate brands from a shitbox to a performance oriented one. Otherwise you are going to get 3 copy paste entries because that’s what’s fastest.

Is this a hard limit or rounded?

What about hiding the chassis for interiors?
What about wheel offset as well as chassis width?

  1. Reviewing that, i think you´re right, i will remove the 0 techpool for a 45 million techpool with a minimum of 0 instead, and remove any quality sliders restriction, this will let everyone do different combinations as price, hp and weigth are already the restrictions

  2. Rounded, i will only look the first decimal.

  3. Wheel offset ATS is allowed in the rules only for the race car. But as i know the tunnel size can be obstructive for interior design, i will allow this ATS in both cars, but chassis width must remain the same, as this ATS also change the wheel axle width and a don´t have a width restriction for cars

worth noting for non beam players, the track width in ATS can make the steering angle more aggressive and even break the steering wheels so keep that in mind making you cars.
(not hijacking your forum just a friendly tip or reminder for non beam players)

Thanks for the tip, all comments are accepted

for the race car tires, what if the body I picked literally can not have that tire, the rear tires are compliant but the front tires won’t go any wider than 265. am I going to have to start from scratch just because of this?

Welp, thet is indeed a great question, i thougth in TCR all manufacturers run the same tyre (As F1) but nope, i entered again in the FIA regs and in found its maximum instead of fixed, so yeah i will allow your tyres but the condition in the rules state that all 4 wheels must be identical, like the road car, i will need to have a better reading comprehension lol

Good afternoon Driver, This here will be your car. The triple 2 Flosonic Talon. It understeers quite a lot at high speed, so you’ll need to brake accordingly and sometimes a bit early through corners, but this is offset by its acceleration, it can go from zero to a hundred in just over 4 seconds. Accelerating out of corners onto the straights is where you’ll make up the most time as it has a top speed of about 315 kilometers per hour
